After complete dissasembly of the door as part of the repaint process, the window lift is slower than ever - snail's pace. Is it a function of new felt and rubber squeegies or is there some type of adjustment which may lessen the tension?

I would clean the contacts. After 30+ years you could be loosing voltage. What about lube on the regulator?

I did not clean the contacts - but did lube the regulator. Thanks for the suggestion. I will make it, as my wife likes to ask "Do you have another car project this weekend?"

My wife thinks I have some kind of mental illness for working on car projects.
Do both of your windows drag or just one side. If only one then I would think that the motor is bad, pulling too much amps.

Rick are all the regulator adjustments correct? Do you have end float of the window in the felt? Does the window tilt as it is going up or down? Any one of these things will cause this problem especially if it did not exist before, these are all adjustment related.

Rick2's suggestion was the cure for my friends 79S after he totaly renewed his door assembly.
I'd suggest cleaning the contacts for good measure.

Update: Finally had time to take the door panel off and get to work. I cleaned and relubed the regulators and pivot points. Then I disassembled each of the 6 contact points and cleaned everything thoroughly and reassembled. I then used the switch on the passanger door and the window positively screamed up and down - like the driver's. Very pleased with the simple fix I buttoned it back up but left the window half way down for ventilation.
Got in the driver's seat and decided I would wash the car since it had been a month, hit the drivers side switch for the passanger side, and you already know the rest of the story - it crawled.
I will also clean all the contact points on the driver's side now and clean and relube while I am in there. I heard another theory for a slow power window - the contacts get worn in the switch itself, and contribute to its slow movement. The old switches can be disassembled (somehow - I sure can figure it out) and cleaned and tweeked to be as good as new. But if the cleaning and lubing doesn't work and it is the switch (the easy thing would be to trade switches (duh)) then I will buy a new switch, paint it to resemble the old ones and stash the old switch away for posterity. Whew!
First test - switch the lift switches.
