    Restoration Help

Pulled the 1971 911S out of storage and goining through a full restoration. Rust in the usual places, Rockers, rear door jambs, and fender supports. Bought all the sheet metal and proceeded in drilling out all the spot welds. Surprisingly, the inner rockers and jack posts were in great condition. Oh well, better having too many parts than not enough.

Question I have is on the replacement outer rockers. Once I fitted the replacement rocker up I noticed that there was a 2" diameter hole on the new rocker sill all the way up front near the door hinges. The original rocker did not have this. I assume the aluminum sill plate will cover this up. Is there a plastic cap that should be in there? Or maybe I have the wrong rocker. It's a aftermarket part so it may be a generic one part fits all, but I figure someone out there might know. Thanks Allan

    Restoration help

    Hi,

Do you mean the square recessed 4 x 2 cm hole? It's closed off a by piece of sheet metal so it's flat with the rocker panel. Shown on my '73 but don't know if the 71 had that original.

    Regards,

    Cees

Yes, the retangular hole was in my original rocker, but the new rocker has a round hole. Any one know before I weld this part in? Thanks Allan
