    911S 1972 Strähle

    Hi,

It doesn't seem that its oil tank is not a standart one. Was it a sport factory one or after market one ?

I didn't see a good view of the oil tank in the pics. But the oil filler door looks much the same as on my street production 911S. Heck, looking at those pics, there's nothing "standard" about this car at all! Very impressive car, indeed. But it's not something I'd want to take a 500 mile road trip in.

I sorta don't think that's an oil tank you see there. If you look closer, the spin on oil filter goes thru the wall as all 72's did which means the tank's on the other side (in fender well area where it's supposed to be).

Nonetheless, I'd probably offer up my first born for that car.

    Manu,

The plastic 'tank' you see next to the oil filter is probably an overflow catch tank.
The real oil tank should be in the same position as the road car,ie,between the door jamb and the rear wheel.

    Cheers,
    Dennis.

    Hello,

Yes Dennis, the white tank is a oveflow catch tank. But I talked about this one.

It has got differents dimensions compared to a standart one.

Do you think it is only to increase the oil quantity or for an another reason ?

    Cheers

Now that I would see it, I would GUESS to add capacity and to prevent the pick up from sucking air under the harder G loads of a race car. The street '72 911 has less oil capacity than other years.
