...as often case blurb seems to suggest that only the M471 got thinner gauge body panels when it is well known and documented the first thousand or so of the 911744 were for most part lighter than series bodyshell due to using a number of thinner steel parts due to each chassis being individually independently weighed for homologation purposes regardless of any subsequent M4xx conversion order.

My car's fahrzeug-auftrag and conversion order factory documents clearly show this important point that afaik is unique to Porsche's approach those earlier circa 500 +500 RS homologation examples.

It is the later example --those chassis north of just over 1000 --both M471 and M472 that on most cases didn't get the thinner gauge RS body panels as they ran out of such thinner body parts progressively.

No wonder buyers get confused between early lightweight thin panel shell M472 Tourings and later heavy normal thickness panel shell M471 Sport variants if marque specialist dealers can't even get it correct.

The decision to use a number of thinner guage steel panels for homologation purposes until that objective was achieved is a key part of the overall RS intent and fundamental to its "story". Thereafter (the odd exception notwithstanding maybe) they didn't need to bother with as many motorsport homologation driven details when exploiting the unexpected success with a third series; they were single step order and construction and became much more productionized

Is it too much to ask that fundamental distinctions are noted correctly by specialist dealers offering RS examples? If they hadn't been thinner gauge along with other measures for weighing purposes there would've been little need to have the famous complex original and conversion order separation and the usually temporary homologation build /subsequent conversion processes. Such things are an important aspect of how Porsche approached the whole limited edition homologation signoff of the initial 500 plus 500 more for Carrera RS; designed the approach specifically to achieve both the target Group motorsport approvals with FIA.

A bit silly as the mistake arguably undersells the special homologation role of this early 5xx example with its original (still?) multiple thin gauge steel present on a car built at cusp of 500-1000. By comparison it implies a RS fully thick guage steel late chassis M471 which likley had no actual role on homologation is more feted based on low numbers configured with essentially bolt on trim-- but not special integral thin body parts-- go figure!?

When I see such basic errors on listings betraying that they might have failed to "get"why and how Porsche approached the initial 500 plus 500 more documented as being homologatIon chassis using various thinner parts for 911744 model in the very unconventional way back in 1972.... makes me wonder if they "know their RS from their elbow"?

...maybe they can sort out the clamp position while around the back putting on the correct steel rear bumper set for an M472

Various things not as original e.g factory spec side trims awol, position of the ducktail decal seems incorrect

Also seat & material would need clearer shot but maybe not model 73?

Hello! One of my old cars. I brought this one to the UK from Switzerland in the 80s.
It had been used for hill climbs. I’ve still got some competition bits off it in my loft!

Came across this snippet. As reported back in the day ....IMG_20190922_195123.jpg

Interesting comment about shaved tyres to 3mm...290kmh is just over 180mph
