    haha this will probably reopen a can of worms

    the car with this history is 911 360 1014
    However there have been at least 3 different cars with that vin number for sale over the past decade - two at the same time in February 2016 (one in the US and the other in Germany) and my records show the third one for sale was in Monaco in October 2014 - ie all within the period of the claimed ownership by DK on behalf of their client. I have always believed the two for sale in 2016 were obvious fakes but maybe the Monaco one (which was for sale at Essen in 2007 supposedly by "someone from Italy" after a then recent restoration in Italy). That does not seem to quite fit in with the DK story either - so MAYBE there are 4 of them although the details on this car line up with the Monaco / Essen one (Odometer, strut brace construction, etc)

    Presented here is a beautifully restored, late third-series example of Porsche’s 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Touring. Chassis number 911360463 was sold new in June of 1973 to António Bastos of Lisbon. It is one of just five delivered in special-order Signal Orange (1414) with a black leatherette interior. A Porsche Certificate of Authenticity notes that this M472 RS was factory-equipped with an electric sunroof, headrests, tinted glass, and a Blaupunkt stereo with an electric antenna. Sr. Bastos sent his RS to Angola, at that time a Portuguese territory, but returned it to the mainland in 1975 still in his ownership. It then passed through a series of local owners whose names are listed in a detailed survey carried out in 2015 by Jürgen Barth and recorded in documentation accompanying the file.

    Importantly, with its fifth owner, Antόnio Joaquim Pόvoas Diegues of Porto, the car participated in the 1979 Rally Portugal Vinho do Porto, wearing race number 24. At the 20th anniversary of Estoril in 1992, this RS finished 1st in Group 4, driven by Antonio Sinóes do Paco, who owned it from 1992 to 1994. Based on accompanying documents, this RS underwent a full restoration circa 2012 and has been driven fewer than 3,000 km since. Shortly thereafter, it was featured in a book titled 50 Years of Porsche in Portugal, highlighting Porsche’s history in Portugal through interesting Portuguese Porsches and their owners, and a copy of the book accompanies the car.

    Boasting a known ownership history from new, as well as its original engine and gearbox (rare for a Carrera RS 2.7), and one of only five touring models finished in Signal Orange, this is a fascinating example of what is perhaps Porsche’s most iconic 911. It would be welcome in any collection and is ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.

    A majority of the Carrera RS 2.7s extant today have been restored, many acquired in a condition that was less than optimal and requiring lengthy reconstruction. Here is a “first-series” RS Touring, the 293rd chassis completed. The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity notes that the car left the factory in December 1972 painted Grand Prix White with blue graphics and trimmed in Black leatherette. It was fitted with optional headrests, seat belts, and a pair of auxiliary high-beam halogen driving lamps mounted in the horn grilles.

    According to the Fahrzeugbrief, the German vehicle registration supplied with the car, 0293 was delivered “Unwaxed” (without Cosmoline on the underbody) to Nordheim in Dusseldorf, West Germany, in early January 1973. It was then sold to Franz Bisping of Münster, who held the car until 1976, when it was sold to Gianfranco Revertria, also of Münster. The third owner is listed as a Michael Starke, again of Münster, in 1979, after which it was brought to the United States through Portland, Oregon, by Kathryn Ekar of Olympia, Washington, in 1986. The following year, ownership changed to a Massachusetts enthusiast, Steven C. Shap, who sold it in turn to Lawrence D. Emig in 1990.

    The most recent owner, John Dixon of Taj Ma Garaj, acquired this RS on 14 May 1998, with recorded mileage at 108,798 kilometers. A mechanical inspection determined that the engine needed a rebuild, which was undertaken by Die Werkstatt in Dayton, Ohio, in 1999. In 2000 Dixon commissioned a cosmetic restoration by GK Restorations in Florida, which included the installation of lightweight door shells and a new front-latch support panel. A detailed repair invoice totaled $17,800 in parts and labor. Although the RS was partially reassembled, the car remains unfinished.

    The original Type 911/83 engine has been rebuilt but has not been installed. The original Type 915/08 transmission was replaced at some point with an un-numbered unit of the correct type, with casting number 915301102012. It was rebuilt by Stuttgart Automotive in Dayton. There are new Bilstein shocks and struts and a strut support bar in the front trunk. The interior has been restored with a new headliner and carpeting, but the sport seats, reupholstered in leather, have not yet been installed. A new wiring harness was supplied by YnZ. The Fuchs alloy wheels were re-anodized and painted by Ernie’s Alloys in Miami.

    This unfinished project is supplied with nearly a dozen boxes of mechanical and trim parts, as well as the removed window glass, new rubber seals, hard and soft oil lines, correct new batteries, mirrors, badging and decals, and miscellaneous hardware. There is a comprehensive file of restoration photographs and other paperwork, including repair and restoration invoices, an inventory list of parts, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, import documents, and magazine articles. There is a correct 1973 911 driver’s manual with RS supplement, maintenance booklet, and other items in a correct maroon vinyl slipcase. Please refer to an RM Sotheby’s representative for a detailed list of included parts.

    Here is a perfect opportunity for a determined collector to complete the project as-is, or to start anew. An early-series RS 2.7 Touring would be the star of any collection; most of the pieces to this unfinished puzzle are at hand.

    Curious it is left part finished. I've not looked in detail but happened to notice ...

    Doubt chassis as early as #293 would've had square raised area on the rear shut so also later profile corners evidently replaced with period incorrect later item. Also are those later trailing arms but painted?

    I'd like to see the vin stamp more square on shot. Particularly more clear view of shape of 2 near where meets the bottom line? Proportions of the font loops e.g. on 6 and curves on 3 etc ? Hard to see * on stamp?

    ..unless I'm mistaken it has a later oel druck and temp multi guage. Early RS made in calendar 72 had a different layout for symbols that changed in springtime of 73 also this car has the later quartz clock also changed in spring rather than the earlier one. Also got decals on the stalk switch not found on row spec cars --which RS is . None of the several equipment things in this post on of themselves are massive issues but begs question why?

    I'm the owner of a 2## series RS for quarter of century so although such things not as fundemantal to any prospective buyer as satisfying themselves about the number stampings these are several other small things that happen to have caught my attention.

    Curious why the # under knee roll gets shown (often not mentioned or pictured ) yet the engine number stamp although quoted isn't actually pictured in listing.

    Hard to judge details from photos/angles and there might be a valid explaination if these differences from the early RS spec norm are valid. No axe to grind just sharing some points I've noticed /questions that might put whatever price eventually achieved in some context given how unfinished RS projects no reserve auction not common.
