Very poorly sold! Buyer really took advantage of the way too low reserve, combined with the quirky rules for eBay auctions for last minute bidding. Person who set up the auction did the owner a real disservice IMHO.

Why oh why wouldn't you buy a set of new CN36 tires and mount them on the original 6" and 7" wheels, take photos of the wheels off the car, then install them on the car for all those exterior photos of the car?

    Brian,
Not sure about "poorly sold" but certainly well bought. "Buyer took advantage..." Yes. That's what buyers are supposed to do. There were plenty of prospective buyers circling this car to drive the price up to a reasonable market level. The market spoke. As for "the person who set up the auction doing the owner a real disservice", I'm guessing in 1983 the owner paid somewhere around 20k for the car. Include his investment in upgrades and he walked away with a few hundred thou; not a bad profit.

Some people don't need to extract every dollar from their stuff. Maybe the RS market is finally getting real? As the owner of an RS a couple of years ago I think these cars are ridiculously over-priced. I'll take a 64 any day over one...

    oh...

    wait...

You both are right. Ebay is not the place to put up a RS auction for top dollar, even though the picture file was pretty good. The 2.9 engine modification didn't help. Truman is one of the best, but still, 2.9 is stretching the limit. In the early 80's I bought and sold many of these cars. Frank is spot on. He probably paid somewhere in the 20's for it. Wanted to cash out and bingo, put up a ebay auction an cash out. Decent RS's cars selling for less than 500 K is not the new norm.
I don't believe the car any any exposure before this did it?

Rick, please don't take this the wrong way but I keep reading "the 2.9 is stretching the limit. The 2.9 is bad. The 2.9 really hurts it."

Ok then; for $25-30k problem is solved. A proverbial drop in the bucket in relation to the value of the car.
