its interesting that for its supposedly "original" low mileage etc it has an incorrect tool kit and spare wheel - that spare has the double "safety" valve on it that only came into use sometime in the 1980's My May 1973 dated space saver spare certainly does not look like that . Neither does my original DUNLOP space saver tire although maybe there was another option for the Italian market?

...............and there seems to be much more than 24K miles wear on the pedals

    Hi Hugh

Looks a fraud. I agree with your observations on the spare wheel and toolkit.
Later gearknob, later bonnet badge, mixed indicator types (silver surround, black horn grilles) and why would you turn such a low mileage touring into a ‘sport’ lookalike which would involve some kind of repaint.

Haven’t got my books here but would 1296 have a single bolt fan strap and 300kph speedo?

And where are the Italian indicator lenses. On a 24k car they would surely still be present.

    Another one rumbled.

    Regards
    Mike

Hi Mike I agree with all your observations (I just gave up looking after a few) and yes a lot of questions - at least they called out that the sports seats were not original to the car - in fact the car was "option free". It was a May 1973 car so should have a 300KM speedo and also a wing nut on the electrical cover in the engine compartment but that is missing completely. I dont have the date changeover to a single bolt fan strap in front of me but I am fairly sure it was earlier in the year - possibly during March
It should have a CanAm decal but no sign of that - unusual for a "low Mileage" car and no shell sticker on air box
Also the front spoiler does not look very stock to me I am not sure that a "low Mileage" car would have those sticky tires and what are almost certainly brake cooling ducts in the front spoiler

I'd be more inclined to buy a back-date car before any "Johnny-come-lately" RS. As with professional wrestling, at least I'd know it was a fake.

That #196 sure looks to have a restamped engine number.

What's the story with GPW and red decals but black whees? Is that a lot of carpet wear for that claimed mileage -- for single owner why no history for first part ?

Not looked at detail as on small phone screen but nice if not got at by restorers as claimed as s third series ( transition) car rather than one of homologation cars might even have some thinner panels despite shutz.
