Thread: RS Replica Whereabouts?

    RS Replica Whereabouts?

Back in the late 80's, I built what is now termed a 'tribute' car on a '72 911T chassis. I built in on Long Island, sold it in '95 to another PCA member that worked for Olympus camera on Long Island.

A real RS was well out of the budget question, but as most every part was available for the conversion (and prices on parts were still well within reason), I set sail on building a replica RS. The car was refinished in the original sepia brown by a shop in Connecticut; Wally did a brilliant job as the finish looked nearly wet when done. I built a correct 2.7 MFI engine, with the heads done by the RUF importer. The throttle bodies and intake tubes were sourced from an early 911S, and not the later composite pieces. A front mounted oil cooler fed by stainless flex lines. The only big visual departure was the fitting of a set of Konig full leather seats as the RS replica seats had not come about at the time.

Regretted ever selling that car and often wonder what became of it, and I thought that a post here on the forum might find the present owner registered and active.

    Thanks in advance!
    Bob

I know, Chuck. But when I sold it in '95 it never occured to me to record the VIN. I'm hoping that the unique color and construction details might be enough for someone to say 'hey, I know that car!'. I'll keep digging on my end.

Yes, it was! Lived in GC for 20 years on Merillon Avenue and later on Stratford. John Kordes took these shots. All of the parts and support during the build were through Paul Resnick at PAR in Yonkers and later New Rochelle. I was working for Road & Track at the time and met Paul through the Porsche special annual issues that we published back then under Thos Bryant's direction.

The car (or is it the pics?) look really familiar to me for some reason. Did it appear in Panorama, or something like it? Maybe that's why?

Stout. As in Pete Stout from Excellence and Pano?

I'm not aware if my car made it into Pano, though I was well ahead of the 'tribute' curve with the car almost 30 years ago and could have merited coverage.

If that's you, Pete...Bob Weber here.

Here's a picture of one of mine taken at the same location c.1971. Also added a nostalgic shot taken while demolition of the hotel was in progress. I lived on Sackville Road, Whitehall Boulevard, Brompton Road and Kenwood Road during my years there.
