    Oil lamp on dash gauge

    Hi

I am a bit confused. When the engine is worm, 80 Celsius, and the engine is idling, the red light on top of the dash gauge is blinking red! The oil pressure is between 3.5 and 7 when driving, and 2 when idling, when the engine is worm. When driving on the highway in a steady tempo the pressure is about 3.7. The oil level is ok, in the middle of the stick. When I stand still and rev the engine the pressure jumps to 6-7, but the light still blinks. When the engine is cold or when driving, the light is not blinking. Is there a problem with the sender unit or do I have to low oil pressure at idle? (my idle is a bit high, 1200 rpm when engine is warm)

    Thanks
    John

That questions brings to mind a whacky story that happend to me regarding the flashing red "oil light." I was out of the country for 9 months and asked my girlfriend to start my 71 911T and drive it around the block once a week while I was gone. When she brought it out onto the driveway and let it warm up for a few minutes, she noticed the flashing red light and concluded I needed oil. So she poured in a quart -- and the damn light kept flashing. So another quark went in. Needless to say, oil started pouring out of the reserve and onto the driveway. She concluded I had an oil leak and that was why I was low on oil. She thought she would do me a favor and take it to the shop to fix it. All I can say is thank god she is cute.

Fu.., that was embarrassing, it was the hand break!!! I "panicked" when I thought it was something with the oil. I should have read my German manual better.

I am probably not as cute as Scotts girlfriend, so I have no excuse.

    John,

Don't be too embarrased. You are not the only early 911 owner to do that. I did the same thing when I first got mine. I am sure there are many others. Just part of the learning curve.

I did it too. A long time ago. Only this message board was not here to solve my "problem". There's alot of knowledge here that we sometimes take for granted.
