That's interesting. Two weeks ago at the Lime Rock ALMS race the Porsche board member that oversees worldwide motorsport along with the factory head of motorsport gave a talk during lunch in the PorschePlatz tent and were asked specifically this question. Both adamantly insisted that the factory would not get involved in GT1 because the bang for the buck wouldn't justify the develpoment costs. Of course they also didn't let on that this car was in the works either. They pretty much said that other than the RS Spyder the 911 was the only car that the factory would focus on for racing. I'll wait with fingers crossed hoping that this is more than a rumor.

The Vettes???? Ha, they got their heads handed to them by Aston Martin again today and are already crying 'unfair advantage' (this according to the announcers). The Spyder almost had the diesel Audi as well but the diesel's pulling power was too much on the final straight. Today's race track looked like a very, very nice track to run on.

I just finished watching the race. Incredible race!! Porsche p2 racing for overall! I haven't kept up with the news with Vette and Aston Martin. Can someone clarify what the new advantage if even an advantage that the Aston Martin got recently?

I have been seeing this GT1 thing all over the internet for a couple weeks, and I really have a hard time believing its anything but an unsubstantiated rumor.
Why would Porsche develop a GT1 class car when they are just finishing a LMP2 car, and need to finish the next generation GT2 car? Also, why would it look anything like the discontinued CGT?

Yup. I was there, and I think it was much nicer for the drivers than the spectators. It was HOT, and there is very little shade, there is lots of dust, etc, but it was a great weekend of racing, and I will go back. For being only a couple months old MMP is a fantastic facility and as it matures I think it is only going to get better. From the east grand stand one can see the whole east end of the track, which makes for great spectating.

    From corvetteracing.com:

"Racing the Aston Martins under these rules is like playing five-on-four hockey for an entire game," commented Fellows after the two-hour, 45-minute race.

As a result of performance adjustments imposed by the sanctioning body, the Corvettes went into battle with 1-mm smaller intake air restrictors, 10-liter smaller fuel tanks, and 199 more pounds than their British rivals.
