Thread: Shades of Blue

  1. #21

Be Careful, these pictures are very decieving !

My Oxford blue (Dalmation) has a purple tint in real life, Albert blue is actually quite dark (sold My targa this year, I will return to Germany next week where I have all the color samples in the factory book, be careful digital cameras
dont represent blue well at low dpi and the sunlight is a huge factor.

There were a couple of Blues that were rare but more toward a bright, royal
Blue you probably are looking for, both the Albert Blue and Dalmation are much darker in person than thse pictures suggest !

For the 68 I do have the Sonderfarben/ Special Colors Factory booklet. The 4 special colors mentioned in there are: Crystal blue, Pastel blue, metallic blue and Ultra blue.

    Here's what's really going on...

I'm trying to get as close to the blue used on the 1973 Sunoco 917-30 as possible. It doesn't have to be a perfect match, but it needs to be close ... and it MUST be a factory Porsche color.

So far, Dalmation seems to be closest to what I'm looking for.

Obviously I'm going to get samples and lay them out on some metal before I have the car sprayed; but I need to have at least two or three choices from which to make my final decision.

Throughout the years the hues of the Sunoco blue changed, so finding a "match" is nigh impossible. I'm just trying to get as close as possible to what I think is the best representative blue.

I could be wrong, but I think that Dalmation Blue has way too much purple to it to match Sunoco blue

Then it doesnt really matter does it!
Seriously, I think that Albert Blue may be the best matched, but Im sure there are others with more experience that can chime in.

I agree with cornpanzer. Dalmation Blue will change shades of blue based on the lighting. It has a purplish tint in the shade and a lighter blue in the sun. Someone on this board should be able to give you the color recipe for Sunoco blue, I've see that color scheme before....although it could have been on Pelican.
