I need an education on the "steelies". I really like the period rally look, and was thinking this may be a good way to go for an extra set set of wheels for track/DE with A032's, etc. and preserve my 5 1/2 15" Fuchs.

What years are 4 1/2 vs 5 1/2? What are the Lemmertz - only 356?. Will all of these bolt up to an early 911? How do they compare in unsprung weight to the Fuchs? Any idea on what a set typically goes for?

Gary - what steelies are candidates for what you did? The painted Dunlop is really a nice touch!

    Thanks,

Pictures (link) of 15 X 8 steel wheels I recently acquired

I bought these off Pelican for 100 bucks. Currently at the painters. They have a cool date stamp of 8-72. Have no idea what to do with them... I was going to do an ST clone of a 71T that I have, but the car is so nice I hate to cut it up...

When the PO took deliver of my 67S in 1970 it had 5.5 steel wheels on it. I really do not know if it every had the 4.5 Fuchs. I brought steel wheels to go back for that early look and to have a extra set of wheels for my track tires. Steel wheels weigh about 10 pounds more each (with hub caps and steel lug nuts), that is 40 pounds of spinning un-sprung weight, made the car feel like it had a beer. I like the look, I do not like the feel.

Fritz - 10 pounds....each! Fuchs run around 16lbs each, I think. That is huge. Maybe I'll run the Fuchs and try to keep the brake dust off. It's nice to know Gary's offsets - probably the max to fit a SWB?

    These just look great...

Do they make them in a lighter aluminum version?

West Coast Haus has some bling aluminum ones that look just like the steelies.
    West Coast Haus makes them in 5.5" x 15", 6.0" x 15", 7.0" x 15", 8.0" x 15" in either brushed, polished and satin finish. Depending on size and finish $600-$680 ea

Ron - beautiful wheels, but I'm going for less bling and more raw like above.....but I still like this one.
