If you are after performance I would not go for the steel wheels. They are, as pointed out, much heavier. I just like them for the period look. Something different. Everybody and their brother (including me) has fuchs. I think the steel and hubcaps look cool.
For those who asked the wheel on my green 65 is a mota lita, basically a period piece too. I like wood wheels too.

Greg - I met you briefly in the "Dorki ghetto" at the Summit Point DE in March of '05. I remember the plate and your steelies. I was in the triple black '87 Carrera coupe. Was it cold or what?

    Turn 10? Great panned shot!

Nice action shot of #731. Do you have any static street shot of your steel wheeled '72?

    West Coast Haus makes them in 5.5" x 15", 6.0" x 15", 7.0" x 15", 8.0" x 15" in either brushed, polished and satin finish. Depending on size and finish $600-$680 ea
Cool wheels - I saw them on a sweet 356 at the West Coast Holiday last year, but wow that's an expensive touch.

    Your kidding right?

People drop 4k on a set of R wheels all the time. The last add for gas burners was 2.6k. Heck, I was looking at getting a set of 4.5" steels rechromed and that was almost 900 alone.

The only 'cheap' option is flat sixes at 150 a pop.

Steel "paint wheels" on my '67S. Fronts are 5.5"; rears are 7".
