    911 SC's

Hey, What is your general opinion of 911 SC's? I drove a 1982 Targa this weekend and it was tight, nimble, good road feel and scooted pretty good. There were plenty made (25K roughly). I see real nice ones with original paint and mid miles for sale periodically in the mid to high teens. Any one year (1978-1983) better than the other ? They seem like great buys for what your getting. Might make a great second toy next to my 1971 E. Thoughts?

my thinking exactly. We picking up a '78 911 SC with 33,000 miles or so this past spring and have been enjoying it constantly.

the 3.0 liters are very relaible and practically bullet-proof.

    great bargains in my opinion.

I also have a 1979 911SC Targa and it has proven to be a very enjoyable car. It is great for those relaxed drives. Great motor that has proven very reliable. A great balance to my '71 911E.

i'd love to hear everyone's impressions on the driving differences between the SC and early cars (particularly E's).

    Thumbs up

    SC's are GREAT !!!!

Their 3L motors are very torquey, bulletproof, and run forever

A well driven SC could give my old 2.4S a REAL run for it's money… ask me how I know…

BTW - Registry member Fred Stewart (beautiful signal orange '67S) has two ultra-low mileage full concourse SC's in Bamboo Beige and GP White… they are gorgeous and virtually new… No reason Fred's cars won't make it to the NEXT millennium...

I bought a brand new 82'Sc targa in 82' ,and I used for daily driver for years ,and I kept it for 20yrs and sold it. I stll miss the car. The 3.0 has more lowend torque,is easier as a town driver, has tighter body shell and suspension, has more comfortable interior and is more comfortable to drive .I would still use it as daily driver except I would like to have a modern A/C in it here in Hawaii.
73E is more fun weekend toy car to drive. It has very sensual high rev great sounding engine, lighter body, It requres more precise handling and engine rev controll to drive it.
IMHO those 2 models( early 911 and SC) represent true 911s. I hope it helps.

I have an 81SC and a 69S. I love both cars. The SC is bullet-proof, has a lot of low end grunt, is very responsive, and since it has rust resistant steel is my year round daily driver. My 69S is lighter, handles better, has better steering, and it more fun to drive. But it is a sunny weather/garage queen.

    Got one right here:

I've had it 4 years...an early 911 or 356 would suit me better in the coming years I think.

    Super Carrera

SC's are great cars. My experience w/ my 82 has been pretty much what everyone here has said...bulletproof, great driver, solid, very reliable & fun!

I bought this car over 7 years ago w/ 28,000 miles, now has about 54,000.
It was bone stock when I purchased it. Since that time I have done the typical SC upgrades : SSI's, Monty 2 in/ 1 out stainless (huge improvement in power/tq/throttle response) lowered to euro specs, got rid of the ugly sugar scoops, Weidman polished lip 7's / 9's

The SC feels like a modern luxury car compared to my 70E. Both cars have that Porsche feel, but the longhood gets the nod for the most fun

I sold my SC with 212,000 miles on it and never had the engine apart. I ran it to the rev limeter at least once a month. Easey to drive great cars on a daily base and a real bargin for what they can be purchased for today. The early cars our more work to drive like my 2.0lS but that is why the early cars or more fun too is it not?
