    Another Bad COA

    Got my COA today for a 72 911T. The presentation is superb, and confirms that my car has all matching numbers. However, under "Optional Equipment" it indicates "Without Spoilers in Conjunction with Turbo Look". What the heck is that. I think they had to have a Turbo car before they had a Turbo Look (i.e. turbo deleted) car. I think this option was only available in the 80's.

    Could the lack of an optional S bumper fit this description?

    Spoke to Porsche - they were very apologetic and had me fax them a copy showing the problem. I made it clear to them that if they had misinterpreted the code I wanted to know what that was - don't just delete the erroneous info. I'll keep you posted.

    You know, I really want to get a COA/Kardex but this is why I still haven't ponied up the $$$. Too much misinformation and shadiness involved to really be sure that the COA is even right for the car.

    Porsche gets the unsuspecting buyer to assume their COA is a Kardex, when in fact a COA is really a POS. I bought one. What a joke. Now, if there was a source for a true Kardex on an early 911, that would be worth the dough.

    Well my COA came in stating I had a six speed tranny in my 1971 E. Of course they fixed it (in several weeks). The people I talked to handling the COA's didn't seem to have a clue about these early cars.

    I have a feeling that they're working from faded slips of paper in some old file drawer.

    Plus, Porsche as a company is completely out of touch with the passion of the early 911 car owners. They have no idea how many cars are left and how much money they could be making if they continued to make replacement parts, etc. I'm sure senior management was baffled when some underling suggested the COA program in the first place.

    The Kardex was the original option sheet (from the build sheet) for your car that was actually created when your car was born, like a birth certificate for a genetically engineered baby. They stopped letting us copy/look at the Kardex some years ago because the German government was worried about the personal information that was included in the Kardex package -- all of the info on the original buyer was recorded here. Now you can get a COA, a Certificate of Authenticity, which in theory offically states what trim your car came in. Until last year, a really nice lady kept things together there. Those days have gone the way of the Kardex.
