    That's also how it would have looked after firing the enamel. Then, would be gold plated, then the pins soldered.

    Possible heritage

    Good possibility this was a rejected badge that was never completed. Doesn't look like the pins were ever mounted and one of the orange stripes shows a defect in the enameling process, air bubbles. Not a far strecth of the imagination to see an employee taking some home and having it end up at some local flea market. Just a guess, but any production process has a percentage of parts that don't pass mustard and they have to end up some where.

    After reading all the expert comments about this badge I think that it must have been reenamelled, because the enamel looks not to be professionally done, and as one of you mentioned the gold has probably been burned away in the process of applying enamel and baking in the oven.
