    Sport Seats

I just acquired the 2nd 911 I've owned with sport seats (a 72s), and this one has the same "malady" as the first: The seat backs move slightly, even when the adjusting lever is firmly seated. With the former car, I just assumed that they were just worn, but the current car is low mileage with fully restored seats.

Is this normal, or is the mechanism worn? I've not had any apart, so I don't know if this is something easily rectified.

    Thanks,
    Lee

All the sets of sport seats I have had move slightly as the mech does allow for a little movement. It works by two opposing cogs locking together. They can be taken apart but they are a pain to put back together. Make sure all the hinge screws are tight (there are 4). Also make sure the rubber stops are on the tilting frames. I have seen restored seats in which these were not replaced and thus the frames rocked slightly. If required they are still available.

Thanks Alan. All bolts are tight, and the rubbers new. THe frames are tight and have no play - it's all in the reclining part of the seatback. Gues I'll continue to live with it.

    Hi,

Lee I will get some pictures of how the mech works as then you can compare yours and maybe find the problem. I have a couple of seats apart at the moment

I will also get the part number for the rubber stops.

    Thanks

The problem should be pretty easily solved, if it's a major problem. You need to remove the recliner, and take a look at the retaining tab for the reclining lever. This lever engages the cogs. After many years of use, the tab is no longer holding the lever in the right place to fully engage the cogs.

PM me if necessary, and I'll give you my number to call me, and I'll walk you through it.

I should also add that all sport seats rock a little.....

    Hi,

Here are some pics. If the seat back is locked and in good condition (as previously mentioned) the wear in the locking mechanism is probably the problem. In a similar way that window mechanism starts to wear I would think this is the same.

This is the spring and locking cogs (contained in the black circular cover). The lever simply releases two locking clogs and the main spring pulls the seat back up.

The cogs/splines on which the seat back moves are here.

    I hope this helps

    Alan

PS. I am waiting to get the part numbers for the rubbers pads.
