I didn't realize it was her's and thought it pretty ugly until I spend some time walking around it studying it. Viewed closely and as an art object it was quite beautiful and the craftsman may not have held up but at the time it was superb! I had a nice chat with her about the car. She saw me walking up to her and gave me one of those "Oh God, another fan" looks but was nice and then delighted when I wanted to know about her Porsche. Mine was parked next to it and it also had some- relatively sedate- airwork on it. She loved her car. I am glad it has a good home.

    John,
After reading your posts I am wondering if the car in the exhibit is a replica. I don't remember seeing any snake imagesin the interior. Wasn't there also some story about the car disappearing for awhile from the estate and eventually being returned?

Anyone have a pic of Stills in his E-type Jag?

Link to the Petersen Museum page for the Joplin car.

I was a docent there for many years before resigning due to back problems. I saw the car many times and it was rough but from 10 feet away it looked pretty good. I think time took its toll. Never ventured into the interior though as it was locked and the exhibit lighting was not so good.

There was a lengthy article on the Janis Joplin 356 restoration in the 356 Registry Magazine. The restorers couldn't find pictures of the dash had so they left that undone.

The restored 356 is represented as being the original. Since it's been owned by the family for most of its life they probably know the chassis number.
