Thread: My Four Eyed Raccoon Car

  1. #11
RickS - these are 914 Hella 118 foglights with TN4 lenses. I purchased this primo set from Michael Downing, 70SATMAN, who substituted the correct mounting "feet" for the 911/912 application. THANKS MICHAEL!

too dark, so the contrast is too great

use a dark metallic grey instead - THAT will be great.

    Bob,
Just a suggestion. Go opposite direction and paint headlight trim, driving lights and grille to match the silver body color. Leave the script and bumper deco black. Would then be in sync with color matching rear bumpers, if you have them on now or available to put on. The car would then visually smooth out in the front. My opinion is the black is an abrupt visual termination to the lines of the body and the refinement created by the black script and deco.

This reply is a result of a fun dinner with a few drinks, then coming home and playing on the computer while watching TV in my underware before bed. Fortunately I'll have forgotten all this by morning and blame this post on our our protocol monitor, Chuck miller.

    Bob,

I'm all for contrast and if you asked me before seeing it, i would have been all for it, saying it would compliment the silver very well. after seeing it though, somthing just looks off. maybe its just the headlight rings.. maybe if there was somthing else like hood mouted rallye lights painted black too, to enhanse it. i cant place my finger on it, but somthing doesnt set well.

Bob, I have never been a fan of the contrasting headlight rings, but it does work quite well on your car. The black contrasts nicely with the stripes and grills, but it looks a bit much maybe IMO. Personally, I am a chrome guy on longhoods, so I would say go that direction. It all depends on what YOU like - that's all that matters, right? Maybe use chrome rings and black fogs... I have a silver R Gruppe style car that has all the trim and lettering deleted for a very clean look. I am looking for some fogs and this could be an option for me (chrome rings and black fogs on black grills). Where can I obtain those 914 fogs? Thanks.

    OK Bob,

Now that I have had time to digest your look and see other's posts....

Songhoh's red on red and black on black and Gumby's black on black and sliver trim rings against body color works very well. The colors work well and don't fight one another. Bob, from my persective, the contrast of headlight rings is just too stark. But as you already know, all should follow the path which makes us happy, and not what others opine. So ditch those black rings.
