Thread: Solex Sport Kit?

    Solex Sport Kit?

I found a picture of something called a "Factory Sport Kit for Solex Carbs". They look to me like an early rain sheild for the Solex's like the Weber versions used on the 911R. I've never seen them before or noticed them in my parts manual. Does anyone know about this kit or have any other pictures?

    Thanks
    David

    Hello David,

your picture shows the factory sportkit for solex (901 100 920 00) which was offered up to 1968. It included larger venturies (34mm), air jets (200), warmer spark plugs and rain shields which increased the power (6-8PS).

    Hope it helps.

Thanks Claudius, that's a great help. I was wondering if they were jets in that Porsche bag.

Does anyone have one of these kits laying around? I'd like to give it a try, I know when I've been tuning the carbs and have taken the car for a quick test drive without the aircleaner on it sounds awesome with raw induction !

That was my kit. It was recently sold. It took me two years to find someone who needed it and funny it was for sale longer than that by the last seller! I bought it thinking it was for Webbers. Those were juts in the bag.

Thanks for posting Don. If you don't mind my asking, what did it change hands for, I'd like to try and get one if I can.

Do you have any pictures of the brackets on the rainshields?

    Thanks
    David

    Solex rainshields

    Hello David,

When checking my archive a I found following picture and I think these rainshields look the same as in your picture especially the welding points.

    Claudius, You are a Diamond!

I'm supprised that it only locates on one stud from each bracket, I wonder how wobbly they are? I thought the bracket would be U shaped and connect to two of the studs around the velocity stack. Doesn't the Weber version have four brackets?

    Weber rainshields

    Hi David,

    You are correct.
But there were 2 different versions for Weber Carburetors, one for the 911R cars (first 3 pictures: thanks Ernie Wilberg for your great webpage!) and the other for Weber Sportkits (last picture, flat rainshield). That is what I found out. But hopefully somebody can verify...
