Thread: Halda Twinmaster & Porsche

    Richard,
You are right about the connecting wheel always being 55, but in my Twinmaster the Z-gear is also 55 teeth, making the gearing 129/55.
Cam and I both have 15" rims. His 205/60's have a sidewall height of 123 mm, my 225/55's have a sidewall height of 123.75 mm, so we're very close on wheel circumference; 1969 mm vs 1973 mm. The difference would be .2%, which is only 2 mtrs per kilometer. So I think Cam should try the 129/55 gears. Good luck!

    Arjen,

First. The official Z gears are:

    70 - 58 - 48 - 39 - 27 - 22 - 18 - 16

He might have a hard time finding a 55 which is not an original gear for a Trip or Twinmaster.

    Second .2% is the eq. of almost 3 teeth (1 tooth is .07). So w/ a 55 he will need a 126.

    Regards.

    RIchard

p.s. do you already have your new car in?

    Hi Richard,
Haha, this is turning into a math game!
I think you're making a mistake. 2% would be 3 teeth, but the difference is 0.2%, which would only be 0.3 teeth. Or am I wrong?
Anyway, I didn't know the 55 is not a standard Z-gear, it was already in my Twinmaster when I got it.
I don't have my new car in yet, it is still waiting (on blocks) in Indiana for the wheels to get back from Al Reed. Than shipping to Holland, so I think I won't make it in time for the Horneland Rally in March.....
    best regards,

    No time for that

What Cam should do is get the correct T gear, hook it up. Drive 4-5 miles. Tell us what he measured and we can tell him which gears he should get. Than he has the correct gears right away. No trial and error.

    Absolutely right, Richard.
Cam, just let us know what comes out of your test run, than it's simple from there. Good luck,

    Cam,

When you are thinking about doing some serious rallies, I would like to bring it under your attention to install the Trip/Twinmaster more in the center of the dash. Sometimes a navigator has it's hands full (road books, time table) and lacks that extra hand to zero the Trip/Twin. When it's closer to the driver, he can zero it. Another advantage that it will be easier to read for the driver.

    Just my $.02

I've got photos of a nice glove box bracket for the Halda with Heuers I'll try to find for you.
the picture from the Twin w/ Heuer dash clocks was posted by Milou about 9 months ago. He scored it from Edmond Harris at the Essen. Do a search and it should (could) come up

Found it! Pretty slick bracket (NOS, as Richard pointed out), could be modified to suit your tastes...
