Installing an "E" cam on a "T" engine

    Hi all,
I have a 1970 2.2 T engine. Both cams are worn and my mechanic suggests that in search of performance, instead of installing new "T" cams, I should try "E" cams.

Would somebody please comment what are the risks, problems, or benefits to this alternative?

    Thanks in advance,
    Rafael

    Rafael-
You will likely need to machine larger valve relief pockets in the T pistons to get the required clearance. Otherwise, this could be a good change.

Will the non-counterbalanced crank of the T be compatible with the E-cams?

Those cranks are often used on race motors with S cams, as they are lighter that the counterbalanced variety. I don't see a problem with the combination.

You won't be making enough revs with an E cam to cause any risk with the cast non-C/W crank. Good upgrade IMO.

BTW, the T cranks used in race motors are typically, VERY carefully balanced. Big dollars. They are a long way from a bone stock T crank.

The non-counterweighted T cranks are forged, not cast, just like all the other 911 crankshafts,...

Race cranks simply get a lot of prep work including mods for improved oiling at high RPM.
