    Black bosch coil

    Coil Polizei pls !

I have recently bought a black bosch coil on e bay which has the right part numbers .
    It was made in Spain.
In light of the poor reputation of the Brazilian made coils,is the Spanish made coil the equal of the German made item ?
Additional numbers on the bottom are 985 in circle , 746 and a Y.
Are any of these the make date ?

    TIA
    Cheers,
    Dennis.

    Coils

I became a 'Coil Cop' recently out of desperation. Long story. To answer: the black, made in Spain coils, are fine. IT's the Silver ones made in Brazil that are total crap

Is there any source for new BLACK coils out there? I replaced a newer Silver coil last year after it died in Palmdale, Ca on my way to the Treffen.
Running another silver bullett right now, sort of like russian roulette.
Figured I'd better find a known good one for the next trip West.

    Thanks Stacy,

It seems that there are a disproportianate number of Monday and Friday Brazilian made coils out there !
The silver one on my car was on it when I bought it over three years ago.
It looks a little dog eared at the moment but has given no concerns.
Time to do an 'insurance' replacement.

    Cheers,
    Dennis.

The original black coils were made in Germany, at the time our cars were. Subsequently, there were black replacement coils available that were made in Spain. These are FINE. There have not been ANY NEW Black coils made anywhere for a long time, and even if there were black, they would still be made in Brazil, or somewhere WORSE. You MAY be able to find a NOS BLACK coil - I looked for a while, and couldn't. I DID find 3 used, Black coils, all made in Germany, bought them all, and so far have only had to use 1, and it's been good!

It's not denial, my friend, it's the first sign of the onset of Alzheimers.
