I thought I had read that Targas sold for a premium over coupe in Europe. I curious what our european breathern think about this.

3-4 years ago, it was for sure like that.
today the prices seem to be balanced... but still, good targas are harder to find than coupes. interesting how this is going to develop in the future

The prediction from the market "experts" has alway been Targas will be worth more than coupes due to desirabilty relative rarity etc. Ferrari targas used to be worth than coupes, I assume that is still the case.

Most of my friends are looking for Coupe's..VHC racing or to have the "pure form" 911.
Soft-window Targa and 2.4S Targa apart, I would assume Coupe's are prefered now.
Also, most of Europe does not have California/Florida/Arizona weather conditions so this is another issue...just my personal view.

In my experience the Targa is far less desirable than the Coupe. They are regularly priced 20% lower than the equivalent Coupe and take far, far longer to sell.

In Scandinavia it’s the same with Coupe's being more expensive, but this seems to only apply to very good/excellent cars. Less good cars, Targas and Coupes are much closer in price.

Soft-window targas are very rare and still worth more. The question is whether early 911 targas will go the way of the 356 cabriolets/ roadsters...
Here are the production numbers for both from 67-73.
'67- 1823 Coupes and 483 Targas, total- 2306
'68- 1267 Coupes and 442 Targas, total- 1709
'69- 1492 Coupes and 614 Targas, total- 2106
'70- 1744 Coupes and 729 Targas, total- 2473
'71- 1430 Coupes and 788 Targas, total- 2218
'72- 1750 Coupes and 989 Targas, total- 2739
'73- 1430 Coupes and 925 Targas, total- 2355
By far the rarest car would be the 68S Soft Window With only 442 made, and then all delivered in Europe, which was prone to RUST, makes them very very rare. There were less S coupes made in 73 than the RS coupes. Just some food food for thought.

All I know is I've had a two coupes, 3 targas and a sunroof coupe, and I am really enjoying my current 73.5 targa. Anyone who has never driven a nice early targa should check one out. Mine has S suspension as well and holds surpisingly well in the turns too.
Sorry for the gratuitous targa plug
My feeling is that in Italy coupés are more sought after and get a premium in price (10-15 %). This happens notwithstanding the general rule that rarer and open top cars normally fetch higher prices.
The reason? People like the shape of the coupe better.
I believe the pre-bumper 911 Italian like most would be a 1972 2.4S in a flashy color (tangerine, viper green, signal orange), because of the chromes, the oil filler and the power. However, people's choices are dictated more than anything by originality and condition. Many of us also go crazy when we see an original number plate from the seventies, like the one below (forget the wrong lights), currently on Italy's ebay.
