They are available from a lot of places, including EvilBay. I got a set at the Big Three swap meet a few years ago for $5 at a vendor stand. Here is a pic. Don't know if the printing will be legible after the picture is reduced to upload, but it says they are licensed from Mobil by:

    SRE Industries
    2804 W Burbank Blvd
    Burbank, CA 91505
    818-848-7223

There are two sizes, one about 6-1/2" overall, and one about 4-1/2"--the sheet they're on is standard 8-1/2 x 11", so you can extrapolate from there.

It also says that the horses nose should always be installed parallel to the ground, and even gives a guideline for doing this correctly. From looking at the pics of Thom and Andy's installations, they ignored this mandate.

I looked all over...and asked all over...

and NO ONE seemed to have a clue just what the "proper" orientation was for installation...even looking at Mobil's own literature and petroliana, yielded no real guidance...so I just WINGED IT!! Anyway, next time I do these decals - they get replaced every so often - I'd like to try it per the vendors instructions. Tom, is this vendor still around?
    Cheers

I dunno about the guidelines, but if you look back at almost all applications of the horse you'll see it's head somewhat elevated. I think it's more about the 'look' of it rather than what some oil company insisted it should be so many years ago. Personally, I much prefer the head elevated as most have done. Further to that, I highly doubt there's a Pegasus Cop out there that would tear a strip off you for that one...

    Thom-

I believe they are, at least they show up on Citysearch.com here.

    Paul-

You are underestimating what the oil companies are capable of with their current massive profit margins--squads of Decal Police are circulating at every racetrack in the world as we speak!

Seriously, if you look at the way the horses head is pulled back, when you rotate the guidelines on the pic above to horizontal, the horse is actually still in an "elevated" position, sort of rearing or leaping up. Photochopped image below.

    Hi,

I recreated the original vintage crest. I'm not sure what the original size of the decal is. If you would like to receive the printable PDF, or EPS document please send me an email.
