Bob-
I really like what you are doing, your progress is exponential! As I was just reading your last post, I was trying to brain storm how else one could form holes in the vinyl.....have you tried a hot needle?

Bob,
Count me in for 2 pieces for my 72.
Also....
My wife is a scrapbook fanatic.
She told me that at scrapbook supply stores, they
have every size and shape hole puncher that you
cant imagine.
The only problem is doing this free hand.
Steve
If you have your tattered original, or can remove it and reassemble it, you could sandwich a piece of paper between the two and use it as your template - you will just need Kenik's miniature drill press. That reminds me, I have some very tiny drill bits I could possibly use with my drill and the original as a template.Originally Posted by Rico

Or, use several of the good pictures of vin tags on this board (search vin sticker), resized to the correct dimensions (130 X 40mm), and printed on your computer. Laid over the new sticker, each will provide at least the #911-------#, and with the right assortment of good pics of vin stickers, the other numbers should be available. Care would be needed to then lay them over in the correct spacing and orientation, but you wouldn't need to freehand it. My original is still attatched to the chunk of rusty metal I took off the car, so I will take a digital photo of it, resize it to correct dimensions, and voila! the perfect template. Oh yeah, I'd like a set of four, too, please! Thanks for your work, Rob.
Somebody must have a picture of the original machine that imprinted the VIN and build date...

duplicating the # is easy but time consuming.
it's making the holes that's tough.
TO MAKE YOUR VIN AND MANUFACTURE DATE:
get standard graph paper.
using the square grid print out your # using a "sharpie" pen.
here's the tricky part, you need access to a copy machine (or scanner or Kinkos).
reduce image by 50%
reduce again by 50%
reduce again by 75%
you now have a perfect template for your #
that's how i did my sample above, it's the holes that are difficult.
i did use a hot needle, the melted vinyl holes were ok but i can do better.
i'll post sample #'s on grid paper tonight.
