I ran them on a 73S on the road for a couple of years. They're not what I'd call "sticky" and they didn't pick up gravel from my drive any more than a normal road tyre. The only thing I would say is that they have a stiff sidewall designed for racing loads so the ride quality won't be as good as a Pirelli P6000 for instance. However they look great and certainly grip well. They have become the tyre of choice on the historic racing scene in Europe and are used on big events like Le Mans Classic, Tour Auto etc. So I wouldn't view them as an untested / unknown quantity.

Are we talking about the Avon's still or the Dunlops?

I took it that the last comment from Renntyp was about the Dunlops

Andy's correct - I was speaking about Avons. Dunlops aren't road legal in this part of the world.

I love mine. It's crazy how much grip I get out of a 175 on the 4.5s. Pretty much eliminates the need for flares on the street other than for cosmetic considerations, in my mind.

I am also using the CR6ZZs in 185/70-15 & 215/60-15 - front and rear in hard compound with V-rating to comply with the 240km/h top speed entry in my car's TUV registration papers. Great handling due to the very stiff sidewalls and it's easy to get them to temperature.

Here is picture of the Avons on my car:

As a data point let me say that I love the Avons, might have said that before, BUT I have worn my rears out in a year of driving! At $270 a pop I might have to try something else.

I've got 2,000 "spirited" miles on my Avons now and they look like they'll last easily another 3,000+.
