Best process to rebuild mag case please.

    Hi
I bought this 1967 from an older gentleman.
Original color is Irish green #6606.
It was modified to the wide body but still shows some detail from 1967.
The engine is 1971, 2.2s. The car has never been driven in the past 17 years.
I've been reading about bore align, case saver and other thing.
For the 35 years old engine, what is the correct process for rebuilding this magnesium case.
Where should I get this done?
Thank you in advance for your help

    Burint:

If you want a good, solid mag-cased engine that will be durable, this is what I'd recommend:

    Install Case Savers
    Deck the cylinder mounting surfaces
Line hone or line bore as required
Oil bypass modification (use SC or Carrera pump)
Shuffle pin (especially in non-7R cases that will see 7K+)

I would send this to Ollies in LA.

Ditto for Ollies. Save on freight by breaking the engine down yourself and shipping the engine halves without studs. Even better, if you or someone you know is coming through LA (as most flights from Thailand to the US invariably do), pack the case up as luggage; they are light enough.

As with anything Steve says...do whatever Steve says.

Hello: Don't aline bore that case oversize. Have the case halves machined then bored back to standard. Oversize main bearings are getting harder to find and expensive. Hope this helps. Thanks Eric

    Hi
Thank you for all the input. Another friend suggests before doing anything, try bolt the case together without a crank or bearings, measure the bore, checking that it is within spec and not oval. If it is within spec, leave it as-is.
Is there a chance I can get away with this.
