    RS Engine Value ?

A good friend of mine has an original RS (911/63) engine with serial #6339046. Can fellow registry members give an estimate of its value? It runs quite well and does not burn oil (seems quite healthy ).

A Type 911/63 engine is from a 2.4S (Sporto), not an RS Carrera, which is Type 911/83. A good running example of a 911/63 could easily be worth $12-15K, especially if it has been modified to 2.7 RS specs, but a true RS Type 911/83 would be worth much more, especially to an RS owner with an incorrect engine.

    RS Engine value

My 73S is a european delivery car that had a factory supplied RS motor installed in 1988 by Sonauto in Paris by the previous owner. I have all the documents (some German, some French) but I can't read em'. It is a type 911/83 motor #6630993. It's the real deal. After acquiring the car in Jan 06' I let a few of the car folks I was working with to find an early S know about my car and provided them all the details. Shortly thereafter I received a call from a gentleman in Toronto who was restoring his RS and looking for an original replacement motor. One of the car broker told him about my car. I told him I was not interested is selling my engine but he offered me $45,000 anyway. I was pretty shocked by his offer, but big deal, I love the car the way it is and I would have to find a replacement engine.

The seller will not release the number of that engine, which seems strange!

    RS Engine

Interesting. What does being cancelled mean. I did learn this about my engine's origin:

    Year 1973
    Make Porsche
    Model 911 Carrera RS 2.7
    Type M472 Touring
    Chassis 911 360 1009
    Engine 663 0 993
    G-box 783 0985
    Color Tangerine
    Interior black

9th car of the series two production batch. Normal Touring Coupe, sold and delivered new (un-waxed) to West German / Domestic use and road-registered in April of 1973.

FYI, I have seen multiple Kardex buildsheets and the cars were not necessarily made in sequential order. Your car could actually be the first of the series two production run or for instance the 14th.

This (probably) also explains why the fraise Sporto from Nick has production nr. 1 but VIN nr. 11.
