After acquiring the car in Jan 06' I let a few of the car folks I was working with to find an early S know about my car and provided them all the details. Shortly thereafter I received a call from a gentleman in Toronto who was restoring his RS and looking for an original replacement motor. One of the car broker told him about my car. I told him I was not interested is selling my engine but he offered me $45,000 anyway. I was pretty shocked by his offer, but big deal, I love the car the way it is and I would have to find a replacement engine.
    Hi Nick,

This is a very interesting story, especially the fact that it was a Factory supplied '73 Carrera engine for your car in the late 80's. Could you share with us the documents you have? I wonder how the Factory came to posses this engine that was origianlly put in RS #1009? Cool story for sure. TIA.

    RS engine value

Nick I think you should call that broker back..for that kind of money you could get three maybe four '73 911/53 motors and set them up to 2.7 spec and maybe even increase the value of your car in the process and maybe
    have funds to spare.
I recently bought a 911/83 motor but '74 vintage in the mid teens but not
willing to remove one of the numbers matching motors from any of my S's so
it goes in my 72T RS

    Smile rs engine

Not a bad idea to sell and swap my engine but I would take away part of my car's interesting history. The RS motor was one of the reasons I bought the car and went through the hassle of overseas shipping, CA DMV etc. As far as having a non-matching numbers car, I'm pretty happy having what's already there, plus my car has only 68,000 KM's on it and is is exceptional condition, inside and out. I couldn't bring myself to changing a thing.

Regarding the documents, a fellow S Registry member from France PM'ed me and graciously offered to translate the docs. I sent him a few entries from the Sonauto invoice which he helped with. It seems the PO worked out an engine exchange with Sonauto. According to the PO, Sonauto got the original 2.4S engine and Porsche supplied Sonauto the motor for my car. The PO has been a very dedicated and enthusiast Porsche collector/vintage racer for many years. He comes to the US periodically and I will have the opportunity to meet him and learn more. Hopefully soon, but in the meantime, I enjoy every mile behind the wheel.

    Interesting . . .

    . . . does 'the story' of the engine swap . . .

. . . trump 'the significance' of having the original engine?
