Thread: '72 Owners with external oil filler

  1. #11
At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter if it's an urban legend or not. It'll be a cold day in hades when a gas station attendant comes near a car that means so much to the owner. It's a great arguement for self serve gas stations. LOL...while I'm thinking about it, does anyone have greater octane fuel than 94 at Sunoco?

93 is tops around here. unless you spring for 100 racing gas at some of the 76 stations but that is real expensive. where do you find 94 sunoco?

Just bought a 72 in Jersey and drove it back to Florida. Excellent trip, thanks to Tom Bridgers. Before leaving the very kind PO wanted to top off the tank and help me to 95. Pulled into a station and was only full serve. I still got out and proceeded to to the dance but the PO told me it was state wide full serve. That you can't pump your own gas if you wanted to. I don't even know of a full serve station in FL unless your handicapped and honk the horn.

None of the pictures posted show the original oil cap area stickers. Here is a picture of mine. The stickers were on the car when I purchased it in 1979. The car was built in Feb. 72. I hope that that the picture helps. Does anyone have a nice original oil cap that has not been squeezed with pliers that they would like to sell? I would like to replace my cap.

    '72 owners external oil filler

Well guys I think porsche has reversed a few decisions in the past and this may be one of them..Ok ,the filler is no longer located outside the passenger
door quarterpanel but the oil tanks on all '90 and up C2s,as well as 993 and
possibly 996's is located inside the right rear wheelwell closest to the passenger door..
Maybe an old idea thats found it's time once again ,weight balance benefit
    anyone?
