    Auction Description:

    - Rare 911E Targa, 1 of 858 produced in 1969
    - Comprehensive restoration
    - Stripped to bare metal
    - Correct 2.4L engine built to 911S specs for 170 HP
    - Dual carburetors
    - 65,969 believed original miles
    - Rust free
    - Gold with Black interior

This 1969 Porsche 911 E Targa—one of only 858 produced that year—is the product of a comprehensive restoration completed to a high standard. The car has been treated to a bare-metal respray on a rust-free body in gold and features a nicely contrasting black interior. The standard 2.0L has been updated with a 2.4L flat-6 engine built to 911S specification with 170 HP. The 1969 model year was a pivotal one for the 911 and brought about significant mechanical and stylistic changes from Porsche to elevate the car to a new level. Each 911 saw a wheelbase increase of 2.2 inches, which added greater stability and ride comfort. Meanwhile, the front suspension was redesigned to incorporate MacPherson struts, the rear-fender arches were flared, and wider wheels and tires were made available. Perhaps more importantly, Bosch fuel injection was equipped on both the 911E and 911S models. Targa models like this car now came equipped with a solid-glass fitted rear window as a standard feature. This was a vast improvement over the previous soft-window targa, which was a clear flexible-plastic piece that was held in place with a zipper mechanism. The 911 was offered in two body styles—coupe and targa—with three engine choices: 911T with carburetion, 911E with fuel injection and 911S with fuel injection. The 911E model was the mid-range choice between the lower-horsepower 911T and the high-performance 911S. This particular Porsche 911E combines the desirable Targa body style with the 170 HP performance of the 2.4L engine from the 911S. Unlike the 1969 specification with fuel injection, this upgraded 2.4L engine features dual carburetion like earlier models. This Porsche 911E Targa with 65,969 believed-original miles is an iconic classic ready to enjoy.

    Auction Description:

    - Very original example; well preserved throughout its life
    - Optional five-speed manual transmission
    - Rare factory air conditioning
    - Includes COA, Kardex, original owner’s manual, and maintenance book

The 911 E was designed to be the most comfortable of the 911 models; many were lavishly appointed with a variety of factory options. Conceived to fit in between the 911 T and the 911 S, the E designation stood for einspritzung, German for "injection," noting mechanical fuel injection. For 1973 Porsche produced just 1,055 examples of the 911 E Targa.

This exceptional, very original example displays 58,769 miles at the time of cataloguing, which the owner believes to be original. Interestingly enough, it was ordered to U.S.-specification and purchased new in Germany. The car is accompanied by its original Bill of Sale, owner’s manual, maintenance book, factory Kardex, Certificate of Authenticity, and copies of more recent maintenance records.

The factory records confirm the car’s current presentation in Black (10) with the Beige/Tan leatherette (31) interior. The COA further notes that the car was optioned with front and rear stabilizer bars, electric antenna with front speaker and noise suppression, comfort equipment, air conditioner with front crash bar for condenser, tinted glass all around and, in period, Dunlop tires. The 911 E is powered by a 2.4-liter horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine featuring mechanical fuel injection. The engine is paired to the desirable five-speed manual transmission, an option at the time. The factory tool kit and its requisite roll bag accompanies the car.

The Porsche 911 has been in production since 1964. Models produced in 1973 and earlier have become the most desirable as they feature the original Porsche 911 design, serving as inspiration for all 911s that followed. This rare 911 E Targa is a solid driver and an excellent original example; having been well looked after throughout its life, it is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.

Bare-metal repaint with zero rust anywhere, nice body gaps. Superb interior, new tires, new tires, fully serviced: runs and drives well. Car was taken to metal and dismantled (windows out) for painting: dollied and hand-blocked, painted with base-clear paint in the original color; then it was wet-sanded and polished to mirror finish and reassembled with all-new rubbers and seals. An excellent and rare example of the first year 911E coupe. We are a licensed California dealer: California retail buyers will be responsible for tax and license fees. Overseas buyers are welcome: "

    1969 Porsche 911E.

This was a California car it's whole life. It has 110,000 miles. A bare-metal restoration was done to the car in 2014. It is an original, engine numbers matching Bahama Yellow "straight" coupe (no sunroof).

Since receiving from the restorer, I had the top Porsche mechanic in Detroit do the the timing chain tensioner upgrade, the turbo tie rod upgrade, and (this is pretty special) - a "concours upgrade" to the throttle body and linkages (this is done by a specialty shop in California) - improves overall engine performance and looks amazing.
