    BaT Description:

This 1973.5 Porsche 911T coupe is finished in Sepia Brown over tan and is believed to have been sold new in California. Factory equipment includes a sunroof, sport seats, front and rear stabilizer bars, Fuchs alloy wheels, and more as outlined below. The seller is the proprietor of an automotive repair shop in San Francisco and purchased the car out of New York 13 years ago. The injected flat-six engine is mated to a Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle and was rebuilt in 2018, including an increase in displacement to 2.7 liters. This 911T is now offered with a Porsche Production Specifications certificate, receipts for the engine rebuild, an owner’s manual, and a clean California title. The vehicle was repainted in its original color of Sepia Brown (54) under previous ownership, and the power sunroof motor and cables were refurbished by the seller’s shop. “Sugar scoop” headlight rings remain fitted along with prominent front and rear bumperettes. This 911T was equipped from the factory with a front spoiler and wheel well moldings. 15″ Fuchs wheels are wrapped with Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum tires from 2011, sized 205/60 up front and 215/60 out back.

The cabin was upholstered in beige and tan leatherette from the factory. The optional sport seats have been reupholstered in leather, and the shift lever has also been replaced. A period cassette stereo is present, and a few cracks are visible in the upper dash. The five-digit odometer shows just under 76,500 miles, about 2k of which were added by the seller.

Originally displacing 2.4 liters, the fuel-injected flat-six was rebuilt in November 2018 by S Car GO Racing, of San Raphael, California at a cost of nearly $16k. The engine was fitted with 2.7-liter pistons, cylinders, and a crankshaft. Other items replaced at the time of the rebuild include the clutch and the starter. The seller reports that the 915 gearbox will sometimes grind on a quick one-two upshift. Routine maintenance has been carried out by the seller’s own shop, EURO-japan Auto Works of San Francisco. Images of the engine rebuild process are available, as are receipts for the work. Sway bar bushings were replaced in 2018.

The Porsche Production Specification certificate shows a production completion date in May 1973 and confirms the original colors and equipment.

    Petrolicious Description:

This 1973 Porsche 911T Targa is a midyear model that features the Bosch K-Jetronic Continuous Injection System (CIS). This numbers-matching Targa has benefited from a ground-up, nut-and-bolt restoration performed by Makellos Classics of Escondido, California.

The restoration (full photos included at the end of the listing) included a complete dismantling of all glass and panels, as well as disassembly of the full interior and powertrain. Rust was minimal, and the only panels requiring replacement were the doors. The replacements are authentic Porsche pieces, and all panels were fitted for correct gaps prior to paint.

The car was professionally repainted in its original nonmetallic Chartreuse Green, which Porschephiles will recognize as an extremely rare factory color. All lighting equipment, trim, and brightwork is original to the car unless the pieces were too damaged to reuse, in which case genuine Porsche replacements were sourced and installed. All rubbers seals, gaskets, and squeegees were replaced in addition to a new Targa roof panel vinyl by Escondido Custom Upholstery.

The Fuchs wheels have been restored to their factory look by a process of hard anodizing and repainting. The greenhouse is comprised of the correct and original glass, which remains in excellent condition with no cracks or scratches to note. The interior was reupholstered from the carpets to the door panels, the dashboard to the seat covers, and is complete with all factory switchgear and accessories, all of which function properly.

The engine and transmission are numbers-matching units original to the car, and were rebuilt to factory specifications in-house by Makellos Classics’ certified Porsche technicians. The car starts, idles, and drives as if it just rolled off the assembly line, offering plenty of power with the build quality and solid German reliability Porsche is known for.

Body – The body is accident and corrosion free, and it is original with the exception of Porsche-sourced replacement doors and seat pans. Panel fitment is excellent throughout.
Paint – Repainted in early 2017, the Chartreuse Green respray is of the highest quality, with exceptional shine and no imperfections. The color is quite unique as well, always changing hue in varying light and shadows which will surely put a smile on your face.
Trim & Glass – All brightwork has been cleaned and polished or replaced with factory-correct pieces where required. The original glass is clean and free of any nicks, cracks, or scratches.
Wheels – The 15-inch Fuchs wheels were hard anodized and then repainted to their correct OEM style. 185/70 section retro-styled new Michelin tires are on all four corners, and provide reassuring modern grip while maintaining a period-correct look.
Targa Top – Escondido Custom Upholstery was hired to rewrap the original Targa top frame in the factory-style vinyl. Fitment is spot on and ensures a watertight seal.

Steering Wheel – The original four-spoke steering wheel received a new leather wrap and appears like-new.
Dashboard & Instrumentation – The dash pad was replaced with a new genuine Porsche unit and the original VDO dials are clean, clear, and fully functional.
Seats, Trim & Carpet – The seats were rewrapped in new black leather covers with new but era-correct black and white houndstooth centers. The carpeting and door panels were also replaced with the correct materials. All switchgear and accessories are clean, complete, and in good working order.

Engine – The 2.4-liter CIS flat-six was completely dismantled and rebuilt to factory specifications by Makellos Classics’ certified Porsche technicians.
    Original Motor: Yes.
    Engine Number: Available upon request.
The Drive: The engine fires from cold starts eagerly, the idle is rock steady, and it revs in that perfect hollow metallic tone only a Porsche flat-six can deliver.

Transmission – The 915 five-speed manual transmission was also completely dismantled to have its internals inspected. All synchros were replaced and the transmission was rebuilt.
    Original Transmission: Yes.
    Gearbox Number: Available upon request.
The Drive: The five-speed shifts easily, gliding between gears smoothly during changes with no gear engagement resistance or pop-out issues.

Handling – All drivetrain components were replaced with factory-spec replacement components to revitalize the original handling characteristics these early lightweight longhood cars are renowned for.
The Drive: The car is a real gem to drive, with excellent feedback from all controls, a smooth singing flat-six, buttery five-speed manual, and light but direct steering feel.

Aside from the door panels and seat pans, the body of this 911T is entirely original. The restoration was executed with great care to ensure a correct fit and finish throughout. Restored to its original build sheet specifications, this 1973 Porsche 911T Targa sports a rare color combination that is actually correct to the car, and it makes this a total ’70s period piece. The Chartreuse Green color really pops in the sun and compliments the Targa design and houndstooth interior beautifully.
18 months later, car is still for sale. Beautiful pictures. Asking price now $135k.

Seller's ad: Dawning its original color combination, this 911 has benefitted from the same ownership since 2002. The most recent owner has done a wonderful job of up-keeping this long-hood. The battery boxes are in great shape, as are the rockers, and floorboards. From what we can tell the car looks to have received a repaint sometime in the 90's, the engine was completely rebuilt, and the seats were freshly upholstered in the early 2000's, and the car has only been enjoyed sparingly since that time. The car run and drives just great, and starts easily/reliably every time. The paint is in average condition, a nice 10 foot appearance. These long hood R Gruppe cars are a rarity, especially nice original examples, in this price point. This is the car for you, if you are looking for a mechanically sound long-hood, that you want to get in and drive, this is the one.

    BaT Description:

This 1973 Porsche 911T was sold new in Oakland, California, and was reportedly acquired by the seller’s father from its third owner in 1988. The car is finished in Moss Green over a black leather interior, and power is from a fuel-injected 2.4-liter flat-six mated to a five-speed 915 manual transaxle. Features include a 911S-style front valance, a power sunroof, chrome wheel arch trim, 15″ Fuchs wheels, and more. A June 2019 service included a new ignition coil, fuel pump, and installation of a Permatune CD box. This 911T shows 70k miles and is offered with owner’s manuals, a Porsche certificate, service records from 1975 on, a tool roll, and a clean California title.

Originally delivered in Olive Green, the car was repainted Moss Green in 1986 while with its third owner according to the seller. Chrome fender trim was optioned from the factory, and a 911S front valance has been fitted. Blemishes include scrapes on the right quarter panel and lower valance, chips in the deck lid, and a dent under the right rear quarter window. Fuchs wheels feature polished spokes and are mounted with 205/60-15 Pirelli P8000 Vizzola tires all around.

Initially beige leatherette with houndstooth cloth inserts, the interior is now fitted with black vinyl seats and gray carpets. An air conditioning system was reportedly installed by the original dealer, but is currently inoperable. Just under 70k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, 32k of which have been added by the seller’s father over 31 years. An older JVC cassette stereo is mounted in the dash.

The numbers-matching 2.4-liter 911/91 flat-six features CIS Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and produced 140 horsepower when new. A 2011 service reportedly included a new fuel distributor, injectors, and filter as well as replacement of the spark plugs, a compression check, and cylinder decarbonization. A service in June 2019 included a new ignition coil, fuel pump, and the installation of a Permatune CD box. Engine #6133291 matches the included Porsche certificate as original to this chassis. An oil change was performed in August 2017. The engine is mated to a five-speed 915 manual transaxle. The 1992 Porsche certificate lists a delivery date of February 1973 as well as factory equipment and original colors of Olive Green over beige leatherette.

    Auction Description:

    - 1972 external oil filler lid car
    - Flat-6 engine
    - Green exterior
    - Black interior
    - Sunroof
    - Air conditioning

Finished in the factory-correct and highly desirable Irish Green with a contrasting black interior, this 1972 Porsche 911T Coupe is generously optioned with factory air conditioning, the “S” appearance group, Fuchs alloy wheels, 5-speed manual gearbox, electric sunroof and an “S” front chin spoiler. The 1972 model year is regarded by many as an epic year for the 911. It is instantly recognizable by its one-year-only oil filler lid located on the right rear fender—done by Porsche to relocate the oil tank for the dry-sump lubrication system in a more forward location to optimize weight distribution. Although it proved to be a good engineering solution, irresponsible gas station attendants were known to mistakenly add gasoline instead. By 1972, Porsche had incorporated a plethora of engineering and design changes to the 911 that dramatically improved the driving dynamics and aesthetic appearance. The improvements included increasing the wheelbase by 2.2 inches to increase high-speed stability, the fitment of larger contact-patch wheels and tires to aid cornering grip, and the flaring of the front and rear fender arches to both allow wider tires and refine the overall appearance. For 1972, Porsche increased the displacement on the flat-6 horizontally opposed engine from 2.2L to 2.4L. This was achieved through a 4.4mm increase to the stroke and a 1mm increase to the bore. This had a beneficial impact to the low-end torque and maintained optimal performance in the face of ever stringent emission-control laws. The stance on this particular 911T coupe is superb, with it being set to a lowered European ride-height specification. The anodized-finish Fuchs wheels are complemented by the “S” appearance group and front chin spoiler to deliver the final visual impact and presence that this car deserves.

    BaT Description:

This 1970 Porsche 911T is finished in Light Ivory over black leatherette and was acquired by the seller out of Colorado eight years ago. Power is supplied by the original 2.2L flat-six, which is mated to a 901 five-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes an electric sunroof, 15″ Fuchs wheels, chrome lower rocker trim, and a period Blaupunkt radio. A bare-metal repaint was commissioned by the seller, and over $30k of receipts cover additional cosmetic and mechanical work during his ownership. A tune-up was recently performed, and an electronic ignition system was also installed along with a fresh battery. This 911T is now being offered for sale with factory manuals, records from the seller, refurbishment photographs, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean Nebraska title in the seller’s name.

Previously finished in red, the body received a bare-metal repaint in its factory shade of Light Ivory (11) in 2013. Work included removal of the glass as well as replacing the passenger-side floor as shown in gallery photos. 15” Fuchs wheels feature polished spokes with black inlays and are mounted with Michelin XWX tires. Exterior equipment includes “sugar scoop” headlight rings, a passenger-side mirror, and chrome lower rocker trim. The electric sunroof is pictured both open and closed. The front bumper overriders have been removed, and gold deck lid badging has been added out back.

The interior is trimmed in black leatherette with matching door panels and salt-and-pepper carpeting. A factory four-spoke steering wheel and Blaupunkt radio are retained. There is a Karmann karosserie door jamb tag. Instrumentation includes a 150-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer with a 6,300-rpm redline, and a 5-digit odometer that shows under 33k miles. Approximately 1,000 miles have been added during the seller’s eight-year ownership, while total mileage is unknown.

The 2.2L flat-six has been fitted with electronic ignition and K&N air filters. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 901 5-speed manual transaxle. A tune-up was recently completed and a new battery was installed by the seller. Service records from Classic Automobile Restoration of Omaha, Nebraska are included in the sale. Stamping *6109146* is shown above and matches the number listed on the Porsche CoA, confirming the engine as original.

Additional lift photos showing the underbody, rockers, and suspension components are provided. An oil leak is noted by the seller. The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity lists the factory colors, optional equipment, and matching engine number.

    Auction Description:

    • Only two registered owners from new
    • Highly original, numbers matching and unrestored with one professional repaint
    • California car until mid-2018
    • Very early build with extremely sought-after 1969 carryover components
    • Accompanied by original owner’s manual, tools, jack and Porsche COA

Interestingly, early build 1970 cars carried many of the 1969 features (many of which were one-year-only items) and are considered highly sought-after by Porsche aficionados. This particular car is the 91st 911T built for the 1970 model year and, while the COA shows a scheduled date of January 1st, 1970, the car was actually built in early September of 1969 and delivered on December 24th, 1969 to its first owner, John Quincy Brown of Oakland, California who leased it through Central Leasing Corp. He eventually bought the car out and kept it until his death in 2018 when the current owner purchased it from his estate. The car was well-maintained and entirely original.

Included with the 911 is the original owner’s manual with warranty supplement, original Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche, original tool roll and original jack. The car was repainted in its original color and all mechanical components have been serviced and rebuilt as needed. A letter from the lawyer settling the estate is included with the car and shows where the car was maintained and some detail about his owning the car from new.

This car is original throughout including the interior, carpeting, dash, seats, engine, transmission, and undercarriage. This Porsche has never been rusty and has never been in any accident. It has been fully serviced within the last eight months and runs and drives superbly. The engine starts and runs perfectly, the transmission shifts smoothly through the gears, and the brakes stop confidently, straight and firmly. The car is ready to be toured anywhere. The car has its California pink slip copy with it and several registrations from its first owner. Ready to drive to a Porsche club meet or out for an evening spin, this highly original, numbers matching 911 is ready to enjoy.
