Pictures of the different oil tanks & senders

    Hi,

I have recently had several oil tanks stripped and e-coated so I thought I would attached the pictures here to show some of the differences in the oil tanks for our early 911s.

    Hope they may help someone

Nice post. Alan, have you had any luck with repairing pitting and small rust holes in the tanks? If so, what procedure did you use (also ensuring that no abrasive or metal chips got into the tank)? My '72 tank is in need of some serious love. Thanks for your insight.

    Thanks,

In the past I have used a local chap that repairs radiators to fixed "pin holed" tanks, but the last 72 car I did the tank was beyond repair. Instead I contacted Porsche (through my supplier) and Porsche actually had 2 NOS on the shelf. I bought one and a customer bought the other.

Please do not ask the price it was scary

    Hi,

The tank shown to be '73' came out of a very original 73 car.

Alan, happen to have a picture of the "beyond repair" tank? I'm trying to get a sense if mine is gone. I've already had one place decline to fix it. I'll post pics of it...

Very educational posting. What is "e-coating"?

    Great post!

I am also curious about the e-coating process. Please explain. Was it done both internally and externally?

Also, are the mounting points the same between the <'71 and '73 tanks?

    Thanks for sharing.
