    911R recreation - ISO

A member of this board built a 911R recreation and posted a bunch of great photos of the car. I am looking for the original thread (yes, I've used the search feature ), pictures, the owner's name ... something, anything.

    Here's what I remember:

The car was silver, had the oil filler in the fender, rolled on R wheels. I think the car was in Europe, but I'm not 100% sure on that. It was a FAITHFUL recreation and I wanted to check it out again.

I know that's not much to go on, but I'm hoping that you guys might be able to help me track down what I need.

    Thanks.
    -Marco

He frequents DKK as well. Might be some other interesting bits there to search out.

    Thanks, Andy.

I have a question about the oil tank filler cap ... what diameter is it?

BTW, your car looks absolutely great. I'm really impressed by the attention to detail. Do you drive it in anger every once in a while?

    Thanks,
    Marco

    Hi Andy,
I saw your original post and I think your car is absolutely stunning. Great job and something I will shoot for. My car is kinda close to that, but with its own personality. Maybe you have seen one of my posts with pictures? Very aggressive look like yours - still needs tweeking. My question for you is simple. I want to install the engine grill like yours. Can you provide some details on its construction? I would be most appreciative. Thanks.

Here is a so so picture before I put my own TLC in the car. It was taken a few months before I bought it.

    Thanks for the compliments Marco.

The car has definitely been driven 'in anger' on occasions ! - including to Classic Le Mans & back last year.

It is currently off the road whilst phase II of its development takes place including:

    - installing a 2.5 litre short-stroke twin-plug engine (on Webers)

    - changing the wheels (courtesy of Harvey W)

    - changing to Avon CR6ZZ road-legal competition tyres (185/70 + 216/60x15)

    - replacing the passenger seat with a bare period grp 'shell'

    - switching to a period-correct rear roll cage (correct radius bends & 40mm diameter)

    - full 4-wheel alignment

& maybe a few stickers/decals (still undecided about this)...

As for the oil cap - these pictures should help:

    red arrow = 70mm

    blue arrow = 60mm

    yellow arrow = 80mm

green arrow (overall external daimeter of cap) = 90mm

Hi Scott - that's a great car ! Any more recent pictures ?

There was nothing special about my rear grille(s)...

I installed a carbon fibre engine lid from Getty Design (I can't praise the quality of this highly enough) & opted for the swb style with the central dividing bar - because I like the look of this style & I thought that the central bar would help to minimise any likelihood of warping due to engine heat.

I sourced the (stainless steel) mesh from B&Q (probably the UK equivalent of your Home Depot), made a couple of cardboard templates for the recesses in the engine lid & then transferred these to the mesh.

After careful trimming I sprayed them with a couple of coats of satin black paint & used some M5 machine screws & rivnuts to secure the grilles.
