    4 point harness mounting

    hi,

iam installing 4 point racing harness in the "ST".
but i feel just to weld in the brackets in the rear shelf is not the best option, its dosent feel strong enough.

How have others done this before, is it best to weld in a brace and then weld in the brackets?

    thanks

4-point belts? You should consider 5 or 6-point restraints if you are going to race the car at all, since many sanctioning bodies will not accept 4-point harnesses. If you are building an ST replica, are you not going to install a roll bar? Mounting the shoulder harnesses by wrapping around a crossbar on the rear hoop is the best solution, but some hoops have no crossbar.

If you are not racing, and just want 4-point restraints to hold you in the seat better for the street, then bolting through the rear panel with large backing washers or plates is sufficient. A bolt-in harness bar, using the B-pillar factory anchors, is also readily available to avoid the necessity of any welding, and the shoulder belts can be run over it and down to anchor in the rear seat belt attachment points. I have also seen harness bars bolted to the rear shelf and the shoulder straps anchored to it. Check out the pics in this thread for an example. Note the H-strap in the shoulder harness to prevent spreading of the belts at the shoulder if the race seat does not have guide holes.

Hello - please forgive me for resurrecting an ancient thread - but I seem to recall that there was some discussion about using the rear seat-back bolts for harness attachment points - my question is this: how does one use the rear seat back bolts? I've looked at them and cannot figger out a way. I know that i'm not the first going down this path...thanks for your help!
