Vanderbilt Concours in Newport RI this weekend

Anyone going to this at the Breakers and Chateau-sur-Mer? For a first time event it seems as though they have hit a home run with honored guests and cars chosen.

Dan Gurney and Stirling Moss will be receiving lifetime achievement awards. There will be 50 race cars either driven or built by Gurney including the '67 Westlake Eagle which I have never have a chance to see and the '60 Birdcage that Moss and Gurney drove to victory in the 1000K race at the Nurburgring.

Debby Rahal is co-chairwoman and she has lined up a stellar group of drivers who will be in attendance including Richard Attwood, Skip Barber, Bob Bondurant, David Hobbs, Peter Windsor, Luigi Chinetti Jr., David Piper, Janet Guthrie, Johnny Rutherford, George Wintersteen, and Mathiue Plumb, amonst others.

For Gurney it's also the 40Th anniversary of his F1 victory in Belgium and his win at LeMans with AJ Foyt.

    Jim -

I would love to meet Dan Gurney. I am a Charter Member of AAR (All American Racers), which was founded in 1967. This was a way to raise money for his F1 effort. I saw him race at the Nurburgring in 1967 in his Eagle-Weslake F1 car and at LeMans with AJ Foyt in the red #1 Ford Mark IV. I didn't make it to Belgium to see him win his first F1 race. If I had known of this earlier I would have made plans to be there. My wife and I are going to a Porsche event on Mackworth Island near Falmouth. ME. It's an annual fundraiser for charity. Thanks for the information.

I am going Friday only - and to the Legends Dinner Friday night. Could be a terrific event - especially for a first year.
