What oil viscosity do you recommend?

What oil viscosity do you recommend in a standard 1971T engine, lower and upper numbers(cold viscosity and hot viscosity)?

    John,

Many debate this long and hard but you will find most run 20W50 (Dino), 5W50 (syn) or 10W40 (Diesel).

Personally, I have been using 20W50 dino but am switching to a 10W40 Diesel due to lowered Zn and P in the USA.

I filled it up with mineral "Castrol Classic" 20-50W. Its specially made for older cars. The old oil was very black, but I found no metal chips on the two magnets, just a very little metal dust in the groove around the magnet on the bottom plug.
