Pictures of Marathon de la Route 1967 and 1968 wanted

    Hello,

I am looking for pictures of the winning cars of the Marathon de la Route in 1967 and 1968:
    In 1967 Elford/Neerpasch/Herrmann won with 911R Sportomatik,
1968 Linge/Glemser/Kauhsen were first and Schuler/Blank/Steckkönig second in the overall placement.

    Thank you in advance.

    Sporto

650,000 times 1.5! The asking price is in GBP....., then multiply it by 1.37 and then it's only 1,335,750.- US$. The most expensive 911 they say

I've always liked the 'first' picture the factory took of the car...

    You guys are great!!!
Any period pictures of the engine?
Any pictures of the 2 cars in 1968? Where these R cars or not? Or other upgrades like the Sportkit?

    Hi David,
What are you doing on "your island" with your strong GBP?!?! That is nearly 1 Million EURO! How is your project?

But very very cool car anyway.

    Thanks.

It is interesting that in the above photos, the Elford car had two different sets of driving lamps. I wonder if this was due to breakage during the event?

I don't see much of the 68 Linge car. McKlein Database has a few imprinted preview fotos (you can purchase high-quality prints from McKlein for more detail). I've also got this 68 'paddock' shot. (the last shot is an ST from the 71 Marathon).

    different driving lights

    Cornpanzer,
Good point on the driving lights, I must have looked at the fotos many times and never noticied it. My thoughts, the first foto which Curt posted is the winning car at the Porsche factory after the event, hence the flowers, dirt, bugs and grime. The second foto, taken with a flash (darkness) at the event ? Shows oil going in, and work around the underside of the engine. A driver change/pit stop? Notice the meterial covering the air intake for the left (drivers) side oil cooler. This practice was done to make the engine run just a few degrees hotter because of the weather (outside temp). The R has two front oil cooler located in the front fenders, when the thermostat opens the oil is sent up to left cooler first, then back to the right side cooler, then back to the tank. R engine does not have a cooler on the case like our street cars.
Weather, The Christophorus, Nr. 72/Dec. 1967, p. 20 "The Marathon" talks about the 84 hour event around Nurburg Ring's 17.5 mile lap distance and how thick fog, rain, and unavoidable pit stops gave them trouble. Back to the lights, maybe lights were changed to handle the fog or weather conditions at the event.
    Just my $0.02, ernie
