Trying to determine if the rear lid grill for a 1967S was all chrome as it came from the factory? Thanks.

Thank you gentlemen for the quick reply. My mesh is correct, but unfortunately the grill has been painted black. Looks to be quite a project to return to correct finish.
I completely dismantled the grill on '66 to clean it up. I believe there were over 100 separate pieces. I can't imagine stripping paint off all those. Polishing them was bad enough, but it sure came out nice.

Was the 71S also painted black on the deck lid? Thanks AllanOriginally Posted by sithot

I had always thought this to be true until I saw at least one old time period photo from a 1968 issue of Panorama with the entire decklid painted body color. I am not sure which is correct.

Considering soda blasting. Otherwise full removal looks near impossible.Originally Posted by Rich Lambert

I have no problem with the theory that all men are created equal.
But after that moment you are on your own and nobody owes you a damn thing.
Regarding removing black paint from your grille I faced the same problem with a 356 grille that the PO had painted black. I used a couple of cans of spray on Jasco paint stripper and a toothbrush that I trimmed to fit between the grille slats. I had to go over it several times and I used a garden hose with a pressure nozzle to clean off the Jasco and loose paint after working it over with the toothbrush. After the first pass I thought it would never work but by the second pass it was starting to look pretty good. One more pass did the trick. It was still a pain but much easier than trying to brush on paint stripper or trying to dissemble the grille. Good luck!
