What is the value lost with incorrect MFI

I'm considering the purchase of a 1973 911E that's posted on this site in the For Sale section. I think I understand the value lost with an exterior color change, the car was originally silver, but now is a dark grey. However, I'm not sure how to value the loss of the original MFI. The car has a rebuilt '72 MFI. Thank you for your opinions. Rodney

If you have the time and can piece together the old system for a few thousand (?) dollars and then get it running for another thousand (?), then you know the cost to get it back to original. If you can't replace the system, that would be how I would value it.

So you would just need to find the right pump, right? May end up costing you an extra $1.5k-$2k after you buy one, send it to Gus, install, and sell the current one on your car.

I don't think it's a big deal, it's far more important that the car run well. Usually carbs replaced problematic MFI... so you're way ahead of the game!

You don't identify which 72 mfi system was installed...if it was a T, then yes, it has been devalued. Were the stacks and injection pump changed, or just the pump?

Gib's right... I had the same question

If it's the same for the same (E for E) ...well

Of all 5 (basic) years of MFI the '72 and '73 are virtually identical except for the number on the pump if you have an S (and the look of the metal of the pump if you have a 'late' (021) '73 pump as apposed to an 'early' (013) '73 or '72 ... the 021's have bright aluminum main bodies and the 013's and earlier are a dark alloy...

The Bosch MFI manual states that the 2.4T and E pumps are the same for '72 and '73 .. the E pump is a 014

    Hope this helps,

    Cheers,

I typically devalue the car by a percentage of putting it right minus the money recouped from selling the carbs/MFI off. So if the car has the original MFI in boxes, them I'd probably devalue the car by the rebuild and installation costs *75%. I put value on having the parts even if not running, thus the discount. If I have to source the missing parts, I devalue for every last penny because my time is valuable and some of these parts are hard to find and expensive.

It's a soft and squishy way of calculating, but it works for me.

Thank you for all the help and kind replies. According to the ad here on the Forum, the seller states "'72e Manual Fuel Injection throttle bodies machined & rebuilt." It makes no mention of the pump, but does state that it's an "E" MFI setup. Rodney
