Has any one had experience with an 8 inch R offset Fuchs made with a flat
6 and a late 7? I understand it will work for the rear in a stock fendered narrow body with 205/50's.

No experience, but I am sure you could call Harvey and find out about this. My question, though, would be "Why?" A 205/50 fits fine on a 7" rim--there really is no significant performance value to be gained by putting it on an 8". If you could fit a 225, that would be a different story.

I don't think that a 205/50 tyre would fit (safely) on an 8" rim - besides, a 225/50 tyre on a 7R rim will fit on the rear of a narrow-bodied lwb car with the appropriate spacer (15mm in my case).

It depends on the tire. A Hoosier R6 205/50-15 is spec'ed for a 6-8" rim, so it would certainly be safe. The 205 Hoosier is significantly wider than most other brands, however--they are as wide as a 225 Toyo RA-1, as a matter of fact, with a section width of 8.7" and a tread width of 8", when measured on a 6.5" wheel. Tire sizing is more of a guideline than an absolute value, and I have found a great deal of fluctuation between the same size tires in different brands over the years.Originally Posted by andyjboy
Most manufacturers recommend a max. wheel width of 7.5" for their 205s. Even so, I don't think that an extra 1/2" rim width outside of a manufacturer's spec is going to make a tire unsafe. I have mounted and run 265/45-16 Kumho V700s on 11" rims with no problems, when the max. recommended width rim for that tire is 10"--and I have run them very hard (race conditions).
YMMV,
