Thread: Reverse windscreen wiper parking location.

    Reverse windscreen wiper parking location.

Has anyone reversed the parking position of their wiper arms on a '70?
Peter Gregg did this on all his cars and I would like to emulate the look. We have found that the wiper motor in the reversed position interferes with the speedometer cable. We could move the speedo, but I was hoping for some alternative method that has been used successfully by others.

    Thanks in advance and,

    All best,

    John

"reversing" the wipers is "Project #69" in "101 Projects" and is well documented on Pelican.

However, I don't recommend it. The factory moved the wipers in front of the driver for a reason: when you turn them off, they move any water, slush, grime or whatever down below your line of vision and it blows off the side of the car.

If you move them to the passenger side, when you shut them off, you get a nice river of water or whatever running up in your face.

I know this because I'm one of the only living persons to have driven an SWB 911 in the snow-- '64-68 cars have the wipers in front of the passenger and this was a giant pain in the rear end. I can see why they moved them.

    John,

Many thanks for the reference, I don't have that book, but will add it to the must get list. Your point about snow is well taken, however, I will not be driving in that kind of weather, coward that I am. Seriously, I feel a certain responsibility to keep my car intact. It has survived 37 years here in Taxachusetts without rust and that is quite an unusual situation. I attribute the condition to lots of off-season storage in optimal conditions. Clearly, the two previous owners set a high standard and I will do my best to follow their lead.
That being said, a few aesthetic changes are going to be part of my ownership experience.

    Again, thanks and,

    All best
