There's plenty of correlation, Unfortunately it's all negative correlation.

Cult?? News to me. Sold my nice driver Cond 3 69 S Targa privately for very good money last Fall. With no resto expenses and lots of use--gentle loving use.

I would like to add that a 69S is quite unique. I has many one year only features. I don't need to cover these because everyone knows. But I believe 3 are most important. Last of the 2 liter cars and 1st MFI and 1st LWB. I restored one and can tell you it was quite challenging to get it all right. Lots of SWB characteristics/details combined with new LWB features/details. A great car to drive as we all know especially over 4K rpm. Just a great car to own and enjoy.

Doesn't every year (other than 70/71) long hood have many one year only features? I personally would not mind having a sepia 1969 911S sportomatic targa in my garage as my black sheep (or brown sheep)

I had an original 69S Coupe as my first 911. It was a really original car. But it was SLOW...and not nearly as exciting to drive as my 72S or my 73RS

It was only slow because you ran out of gas.... also you were shifting below 4000RPM....

I wouldn't call it slow, but the driving experience is different from the other S cars.

The MFI 2.0S is the peakiest, most sudden feel of the S cam engine out there. Power graphs out similar to the 906 in shape. Its torque curve is very different, lacking lower end of the later and even the earlier 2.0 S cars. With those huge valves and ports, it weezes a bit lower down in the RPM band when compared to the more modern feeling, lower compression, broader torque curved 2.4s and later. No argument.

But, IMO, it is the closest in spirit to many of the things that make early 911s so special. Small displacement, magnesium, MFI, crazy cams, one year valves, and the highest compression normally aspirated air cooled production car made, 9.9:1. These cars vied for engineering mindshare at the factory during all the prototype madness and borderline bankruptcy obsessed 917 program.

    Special cars.

    You can call me cultish...
