Is it possible to massage a 215/60 tire under the narrow flare to make the most of the 7R. Or is a 205 as wide as you can go?

I've been running Avon CR6ZZ 215/60's on 7R's on the rear of my narrow bodied car for a year and 8,000 miles now without any problems. The arches have been rolled and it is a little tight but fine...

Hi Darren, stunning car, pictures really show off the wide track, love it. Over on the DDK you have been toying with the idea of a SWB racer. Will you put 7R with 215/60 tire under that wing as well, or is it simply impossible? Reason I ask is that I have a SWB with a standard flare and just bought a set of 7R. Unfortunately I'm under the impression that I won't be able to go wider than 205 but desperately want to be wrong, as I love the wide look. I have been dwelling on this for a while and want to get it right..

Thanks, a SWB project is certainly on my wish list and the plan would be to fit (steel) 7R's although I'm not sure if they would fit without flaring the arches as per a 911R. Perhaps others could confirm or otherwise?

    Cheers,

    Cheers,
Darren, If you are talking of steel 7R's these would be re-rimmed 5.5's I presume? These could be built up to any offset - I have 2 pairs of re-rimmed 7" steels which offsets vary by 10mm. I worked out that one pair of these is the same offset as a 7R but don't have measurements to hand.

I too like the idea of a SWB on wide steels - dark green is nice.

    Ralph.

Thanks Darren, I think that answers my question, it's not possible to put a 215/60 tire on a 7R wheel on my standard SWB. I have to look for a 205 tire with a tall profile, if I can find one. Never thought of a steel 7" Now back to the drawing board..
