    Fuchs on the 67S

I have the 4.5 Fuchs for my 67S, what other realistic options do I have size wise for this model year for Fuchs and tires? I have all the info for the 165 tires for the 4.5, I am just looking for other options that will fit the wells.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

Mark, tou could go with 7x15 and 205 55 tires. That´s what I have in my 68, no spacers, no fender rolling. They should fit the 67 just fine.
But it's of course not correct for that year.

You could have the 4.5s widened by Harvey to fit 195/60s...

    67S Fuchs

I am planning on having him redo my 4.5's. I did not realize it was possible or suggestible to widen those to fit 195's. Not knowing anything about that, is it a big deal or would it be better to go with 6 or 7 inch Fuchs and retain the originality of th e4.5s for those days when or if I ever want to show it off?

I wouldn't widen them. Currently your 4.5" Fuchs are worth between $800 and $900 each. A set of deep 6s just sold on the auction site for $1240. Cheaper to buy deep 6s, stronger, and you won't be wasting the value of your 4.5s.

Or, sell all your 4.5s and buy a pair of original 911R 7s. You could probably find a set consisting of 2 deep 6s and 2 911R 7s.

    67 S

I like the idea better of just buying the deep 6's and holding onto my 4.5. I am having them restored anyway and would only like to use them on show days if I ever get to that point. Thanks for the insight.

4.5s can be taken to 6", no prob. I don't feel it would have a negative effect on value and looks original. I've seen it done; it's nice.

My first choice would be to run the proper 4.5s with really good tires like the avon cr6zz in 175 70 15. If for some reason you feel like you need wider tires I would find a set of 5.5s off of a '68 (they are about the same price as deep sixes) and have them finished like the 4.5s. You have to get really close to tell they are not 4.5s. My very last choice would be to put sixes on. The 67S is unique, and the wheels are one of the coolest and most identifiable things about them.

4.5's have gone for more than $1,000 a piece needing full restoration. I recently heard of a set for sale at a swap meet for $1250 each needing restoration.
Another alternative is nice. I have deep six wheels on my car currently although I really want to install the original chrome steel wheels.

Also; Harvey is the guy if you want it done right.

    Difference in driving feel

I originally had my 4.5 rims on my 67s. At the same time I had a 73s. I would never drive the 67 because it handled so poorly compared to the 73. I sold the 73 and turned my attention to the 67 and put r compund 50 series rubber on deep sixes and what a change. The swb on real rubber is a blast to drive.

I just (yesterday) installed 7r's on the rear with 225/50 brigestones. I haven't had a chance to drive it yet to tell if I have any rubbing problems. I used 15mm spacers. The clearance to the trailing arm adjuster bolts was only 1/4 inch. It is not possible to use a spacer thinner than 15mm. I decided to grind the adjuster bolt length to gain a margin of safety. This took 5 minutes, and does not affect the abilty to adjust the rear suspension. I now have about 1/2 inside clearance which should work fine.

I have my 4.5's on the self safe and sound. I agree with the posts above. The wheels are so unique and part of the 67's aura. I would NOT widen them. They are too rare and becoming too expensive to modify. The deep sixes will provide the ability to mount excellent rubber and give your car the handling it deserves. The 7r's are expensive, but I think they are a sound purchase in that the value will not go down any time soon. I will let you know if the 7r's and 225's work and if they are worth it.
