Interesting that the bike that they show McQueen sitting on at the end of the pictures is not the bike that is in the auction.
My buddy Dave Barry (not that one) had a '67 Bonneville in those colors in high school and I have wanted one ever since.....he worked at McDonalds part time all school year to buy one new.

It may actually be the bike McQueen is sitting on it but with different equipment.
It appears that they restored it as originally sold but in the McQueen photo he's at least modified the exhaust having added Dunstall pipes, the hot ticket at the time. He'd had more than a few Triumphs in his day I'm sure.
The guy who could tell you the rest of the story is Bud Ekins but he's barely alive today...
Pick up a copy of this it worth the price...

I dunno Stefan, I don't think that it's the same bike. Someone who knows more about Triumphs than I do will hopefully add their opinion, but more than the pipe is different. Tank - fenders- etc
Another interesting thing is that they have photoshopped McQueen off of the bike in the last photo and onto the Bonneville - two fingered salute and all.
Not to say that he didn't own the Bonneville at some point, just a little deceptive with the photos.

Good eye Jim, also the rear shocks. It does not look like the same bike.
Bob
I'm only saying it could be the same bike.
McQueen was famous for personalizing his bikes. He and Bud Ekins were good friends. Ekins had a Triumph franchise here in the San Fernando Valley and had access to many "special" parts of which I'm sure Steve took adavantage.

Anything is possible.... My question would be, if you have a picture of McQ sitting on the bike that you are trying to sell for big $ - because it was McQ's bike - why would you change it back to look like a stock Bonneville?Originally Posted by Bummler
