Cool Thru the grill light specs.

I've had some requests for info and reference pics of fog lights for the 67-73's so I thought I'd give it a start.

I'll add more pics later. All of these are Hellas. Some aftermarket and some Porsche supplied. I'll identify which is which with the pics. In this first batch only the 914 TN4 is Porsche supplied.

First up is the 118 Driving Light (Italian H1), the 118 Amber Fog (French H3), the the 914 US fog light TN4 (Tungsten),

    Here are the approx. sizes.
118s: Exposed lense diameter 119 mm
    Case Diameter 135 mm
    Depth (lense included) 67mm

TN4s: Exposed lense diameter 112 mm
    Case Diameter 135 mm
    Depth (lense included) 65mm

Next couple are the Hella 6" which were typically found on Mercedes and other makes. Interestingly Porsche seemed to have experimented with the 6" H1 driving light judging from reference pics I have seen. First is the H1 driving light. You'll notice the case and mount are similar to the 118s and these will work the same as the 118s in a thru the grill app. Second is a H1 amber fog in a case that is similar but has a different mount.

    Here are the approx. sizes.
H1 Driving/chrome case: Exposed lense diameter 132 mm
    Case Diameter 160 mm
    Depth (lense included) 63mm

H1 Fog/black case: Exposed lense diameter 132 mm
    Case Diameter 160 mm
    Depth (lense included) 63mm

Here are the pics in the order I wrote.

    914 US fog light TN4

    great info and pics !
Q: was it possible an early 911 would have mounted 914 TN4 lights with black rims ?
I've seen this on period photos but I'm not 100% shure.

Some pre1969 911/911R rally cars do have used Hella's w black rims.
Was it possible a "regular" 911 would have been equipped with it too ?
Thank you a for an update.

    What I'm Using...

I'm using the teener lights. I had them chromed and everything came out great.

Michael, many thanks for the templates. A little Dremel time and a flat file and... perfect!

    Eric,

Nice re-chrome. Did you dremel the rivets from the inside? What rivets will you use to put these back together?

Regarding black lights on a 911, I've yet to see them, there's a pic of one in the RS book, but I doubt that they were ever on car from the factory.

    thanks,
    Eric
