#chassis & #engines produced in 71?

How can this be;

S Coupe 911/02 VIN# 9111300001-9111301430 Engine# 6310001-6311959 1430
S Targa 911/02 VIN# 9111310001-9111310788 Engine# 6310001-6311959 788

there is alltogether 1430+788 1971 911S made coupes and targas. But only 1959 engines?

Or is the correct number 1430 1971 911S both coupes and targas? If so they made quite a few extra engines...

Hei John,

You add the car numbers and, yes, there is something not right. Howver, if you add 2.2 from'70 car and engines match is better. Of course, the intelligent part of the engine number changes. So, there is probably an error in the '71 engine number range, has to be.

I agree Allen.

I have added the number from the other modelyears for S, E and T's and the number of engines and cars add up typicaly a few more engines than chassis which are correct. There must be a error in the 1791S numbers.
