Mark,
Let’s see what we can find in the way of rebuildable 901/02 for you and 902/1 for Kenik. I’ll extend my offer. Please email me.
Best,
Grady
Grady, 901/0 is confirmed for my car direct off the factory build sheet, not just the COA. I thought the same thing and didn't beleive it either.Originally Posted by Grady Clay

Kenik,
After reading the report, I agree. You should get the 901/0. I can lead Mark through the process of inspection if he is willing (good education).
I’ll be glad to help you go through the transmission or do it for free. If your 901/0 is still geared as original, you will enjoy the later gears (AFMSX) in the spare.
It is interesting that there were no bids on this transmission. Does the ‘$500 starting bid’ mean you can’t bid lower? Can you contact the seller outside eBay to organize an inspection?
Mark, we also need to find you a proper 901/02.
Guys, I got your PMs. Can we correspond by email? Please. That is much simpler for me. A PM on a forum can be missed for months. Another benefit is I can email diagrams and images.
When we get to rebuilding things, I like to do that online so everyone benefits and it is archived.
Best,
Grady

FWIW, my early car has a later mag case but original ratios and I really like the AA-GA-O-U-Y combo; even more than the AFMSZ that used to be in my '69S, which I have since swapped out for A-F-K-Q-X. The A-F-M-S-5th combo doesn't do much for me on a 2 liter car.Originally Posted by Grady Clay
AA-GA are the really nice part about the early cars gearing...LONG and SMOOTH.

More than willing to go take a look, take my camera, cell phone with camera, wireless lap top, etc.
He should be within an hour or so of me, so that is not an issue. Still warm here and I need to run the other car with its top down for a change. So it is a good reason to get out for a while. Wife will love this excuse.
Thanks
Mark

Cool; if he emails me back, checking it out won't be necessary.

I was wondering if it was common to convert a 4 speed to a 5? My 67 that
left Germany as a 912 has a 902/() the last number really doesn't look like a 0 but more like what I've shown with a gap up high and down low. From what I've researched a 902/0 is a 912 4 speed. Is an aluminum case.
Cheers

Kenik,
WOW, what is the story with the mid-‘69 mag case conversion? That unique casting was the latter 2/3 of the ’69 production. What are the casting dates?
I’ll still encourage you to try AFMSX, AFKQV and AEIOU. Those are great ratios. AFJOS (airport) is generally too short for the highway but fun to play.
If you have the gear sets, re-gearing is so easy as to be laughable.
Mark; I’m sure Keink appreciates your offer. I’ll be glad to offer suggestions and instructions on the inspection. Will the seller allow simple disassembly? Do you have a digital camera? With ‘brake clean’ and compressed air, you can clean off the oil from the gears and we can assess the condition of things. Oil coated gears don’t photo well. Be prepares to re-oil everything.
Dave; the ’67 4-speed was typically a 902/0, geared AHQX (transmission numbers 163001 to 165214). I think the very latest ‘67s were the type 902/01 geared the same but with the ‘simplified’ differential.
Best,
Grady
